We expected to be talking about Scottie Scheffler this week, but we weren’t expecting to see a mugshot from a police station…
Just after 5am ET, there was a fatal accident involving a pedestrian and a bus on the main road outside Valhalla Golf Club, which is hosting this year’s PGA Championship.
Scheffler’s arrest was not connected to the fatality in any way, instead coming after some confusion around an hour later.
The World No 1 was stuck in traffic outside the golf course. He switched to the other side of the road, and ended up dragging a police officer along after the officer attempted to stop Scheffler.
Following the incident, the 27-year-old was handcuffed and detained by members of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department.
Scheffler was booked by the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections just before 7:30am, with the mugshot soon then doing the rounds on social media.
He would be released from jail around 8:40am, before arriving back at Valhalla Golf Club with just 45 minutes to go before his tee time.
Due to the earlier tragic accident, tee times were pushed back by more than an hour. This actually gave Scheffler more time in the end, with his start time moved back to just after 10am ET.
A post was published on Scheffler’s social channels prior to him teeing off, expressing his thoughts after the rather bizarre situation.

Scottie Scheffler: Major champion to mugshot in a month
Scheffler is not the first golfing star to be arrested, and he probably won’t be the last.
There have been some ‘iconic’ mugshots over the years, with none other than Tiger Woods being the one that everyone remembers.
For Scheffler, this is another moment in what has been a crazy and incredible month. He secured his second major title, and second Green Jacket by winning the Masters five weeks ago. That is one of four wins the American has so far in 2024.

He was then celebrating away from the golf course just over a week ago, as wife Meredith gave birth to the pair’s first child.
Now, on Friday, May 17, Scheffler has been arrested, released, and continues to challenge at the PGA Championship. What a month!
Now have your say on Scheffler’s day…
