Inbee Park is the Republic of Korea’s best ever golfer, with seven major championships and 31 worldwide victories in her career.
Born in the capital city of Seoul in June 1988, Park did not actually take up the game until the age of 10. However, the early signs were so strong, that her family moved to the United States just a couple of years later so Inbee could focus on her golf game. She had a successful amateur career, and turned professional in 2006.
She started strongly in the professional game as well. Her first victory as a pro came on the biggest stage of them all – at the US Women’s Open. Park’s win at the USWO in 2008 saw her become the youngest ever winner of the tournament, taking victory at just 19. It would be five years before she got back into the major circle, but they then came thick and fast.
The Korean won the first three majors of 2013 – the Kraft Nabisco Championship (now Chevron Championship), the US Women’s Open and the Wegmans LPGA Championship (now Women’s PGA Championship). In doing so, she took her major tally to four, and became just the fourth woman in history to win three major tournaments in a calendar year. Further wins would come at the Women’s PGA in both 2014 and 2015, with the latter year also seeing her win the Ricoh Women’s British Open.
Park was victorious at the Evian Masters, the predecessor to the Amundi Evian Championship, a year before the tournament became a major. Therefore, the LPGA credits Park as being one of seven women to have completed the ‘Career Grand Slam’. Unlike the other six, Park is also the holder of a Gold Medal from the Olympic Games. She won the Gold in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, on golf’s return to the Games.
