Corey Conners is one of the leading Canadians in the game of golf, with multiple PGA Tour victories to his name.

Born in Listowel, Ontario in January 1992, Conners grew up playing both golf and ice hockey, before taking the former more seriously. He went on to win the Ontario Amateur at the age of 18, before spending four years at Kent State University alongside a pair of Canadian friends, both of whom would go on to play on the PGA Tour as well.

Conners turned professional in 2015, but had to wait a couple of years before making it to the sport’s premiere golfing tour. There, he started slowly, but he gained his first win in 2019, with that coming at the Valero Texas Open. He would win the same tournament again four years later, doubling his win tally. He has four major top ten finishes, with three of those coming in consecutive years at the Masters Tournament – T10 in 2020, T8 in 2021 and a best major finish of T6 in 2022.

From Monday Qualifier to PGA Tour Winner

Conners did the unthinkable for his first PGA Tour victory. That came at the Valero Texas Open in 2019, but he had to come through Monday Qualifying first to even gain his place in the field. It was the first time in nine years that a Monday Qualifier had gone on to win a PGA Tour event.

Canadian Presidents Cup Triple

In 2024, Conners was part of the International Team at the Presidents Cup. Thanks to compatriots Mackenzie Hughes and Taylor Pendrith, the edition was the first to feature three Canadian golfers in the International Team.

Mathematical Genius

Away from sport, Conners is a whizz when it comes to numbers. He studied Actuary Math during his four-year stint at Kent State University, and was an Academic All-American on two occasions.

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
