Jason Day is pretty much responsible for the infestation of TaylorMade Spider putters we have seen on tour in recent months.
It all started back in 2015 where he won the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits and then went on to become world number one.
His putting during that streak was something like we had never seen before. But it was actually with a TaylorMade Black Itsy Bitsy prototype model.
But soon after we saw the birth of the Spider Tour Red.
It was made on Day’s request and was inspired by the redback spider – native to Day’s home country of Australia.
Sergio Garcia would go on to win the Masters with one and Jon Rahm raced up the the world rankings with the same distinctive red model.
So why has Day switched to a white model ahead of the PGA at Quail Hollow?
“I haven’t had the great putting years that I’ve had, like I did over the past two seasons,” Day said.
“If one of your strengths is putting, which it is for me, I rely heavily on that confidence-wise, knowing that, okay, well, even if I don’t play well, I’m going to get up-and-down and I’m going to shoot a decent score.
“Unfortunately, this year, my short game has been pretty poor. My putting has been the same and that’s kind of added a little bit more pressure on the rest of my game. Trying to hit greens and trying to hit fairways, there’s been a lot more pressure because I’m putting poorly.”
Well it’s exactly the same putter but he’s obviously hoping the white model can spark a change in fortune on the greens.
It was going pretty well until a quadruple bogey on his 54th hole…

It has been a superb display at Quail Hollow so far from Kevin Kisner. But can he get in done on Sunday and land his first major?
He’s hardly a household name among casual golf fans but does have a couple of PGA Tour wins to his name.
That could and maybe should be a few more as he’s lost out in play-offs on FOUR occasions.
Kisner is a Callaway staff player but hasn’t gone into either of the new Epic drivers. He’s still using the Great Big Bertha which is also in the bag of Hideki Matsuyama.
He does have a strong Callaway Epic 3-wood at 13 degrees and an 18 degree Apex hybrid to make up his wood line-up.
Then it’s the Callaway Apex UT and Pro irons, Mack Daddy 2 wedges and an Odyssey White Hot #7.
