Equipment: Jason Day and Dustin Johnson re-sign with TaylorMade

TaylorMade underline their commitment to kitting out the world's best players

Jason Day and Dustin Johnson, the current world number one and two, have signed equipment contract extensions with TaylorMade.

It was announced recently that Adidas, who own TaylorMade, were looking to sell the golf equipment arm of the business.

But the re-signing of Jason Day and Dustin Johnson reaffirms TaylorMade’s commitment to filling the bags of the world’s best golfers and maintaining their reputation as the number one metalwood brand on tour.

Jason Day and Dustin Johnson are both contracted to play TaylorMade woods, irons, wedges and ball.

Day, who first signed with TaylorMade in August of 2006, made his debut on the PGA Tour that same year and reached the top of the world rankings after his maiden major victory at the 2015 PGA Championship.

“For so many years, I aspired to play at the highest levels of the sport and become the best player in the world,” said Day.

“I chose TaylorMade at the onset of my PGA Tour career because they made products that performed.

“They’ve supported me on my quest for world #1 since day one. I’m excited to continue working with the great team at TaylorMade and playing the best performing equipment in the game.”

Johnson, who first signed with TaylorMade in December of 2007, earned his 2008 PGA Tour card by successfully navigating qualifying school.

He has had at least one victory in each of the last nine PGA Tour seasons – the longest such active streak on Tour.

A dramatic victory in the 2016 US Open Championship at Oakmont, gave Johnson his elusive major victory and helped him to reach his highest world ranking of two.

Arguably the longest hitter on Tour, Johnson has been ranked inside the top five on the PGA Tour in driving distance every year since earning his card, and held the top spot at the conclusion of the 2015 season.

“When I started my professional career, my goal was to be the best and win tournaments. I chose TaylorMade because they made products that outperformed anything else I had ever played,” Johnson said.

“Since day one, I’ve had a great relationship with the TaylorMade team and especially the guys who support me every week out on Tour. I’m looking forward to continuing our teamwork and playing equipment that I believe in and has helped me to succeed.”
