How much does the winner earn at Erin Hills in Wisconsin?

The best women’s players will take centre stage at Erin Hills in Wisconsin for the US Women’s Open last week.

Nelly Korda didn’t win a staggering seventh title in 2024 as she missed the cut, so another star spoiled the party of the short-price favourite and won the famous trophy.

Yuka Saso tamed the brutal challenge of Lancaster to win her second US Open title and just her second LPGA Tour title. You can read more about it here.

By winning, Saso banked $2,400,000, which is well over double the prize she earned for winning her first US Women’s Open title in 2021. In fact, the 2024 runner-up Hinako Shibuno won more for coming second than Yaso did for her first major title four years ago.

Nine years ago, In Gee Chun won $810,000 from a purse that stood at $4,500,000. When Allisen Corpuz sealed her first professional title at the event at Pebble Beach last year, she banked $2,000,000 from the $11 million prize purse.

The total purse in 2024 increased again to $12 million, which was the largest purse in the women’s game in 2024.

USGA CEO Mike Whan announced the prize money for the 2024 tournament on Wednesday ahead of the first day of play on Thursday.

“We’ll go to a 20 percent payout for winner, and we will do that across all of our professional championships. So the same will be true in Pinehurst and Newport and Women’s U.S. Senior, as well,” Whan said.

“We saw that in some elevated events on the PGA TOUR and looked at that ourselves from a standpoint of how that looked, and we liked it.

When you start talking about the kind of money we’re talking about in 12 million and more, it has very little effect kind of all the way down the line, but even makes the win even more significant. So, yeah, you’ll see the same as we talk about other championships.
