Former Solheim Cup captain Dale Reid passes away

The Ladies European Tour reported Dale Reid died peacefully in Townsville, Australia

Former Solheim Cup star Dale Reid has died aged 64.

Reid passed away on Wednesday morning in Townsville, Australia after suffering from cancer.

Having turned professional in 1979, Reid became a life member of the Ladies European Tour and played in four Solheim Cups for Team Europe.

She also captained her side to victory at Loch Lomond in 2000 and was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list.

Reid also captained Europe in 2002 at Interlachen Country Club in Minnesota, but the United States won 15.5 – 12.5

21 wins on the LET led to Reid winning the Order of Merit in 1984 and 1987. She won 23 times in total in her professional career.

Reid first picked up a golf club at age four in Scotland and won her first title at the 1980 Carlsberg Coventry tournament.

She holds the record for the most top-10 finishes on tour with 135 and her best round came at the Bloor Homes Eastleigh Classic with a stunning 58.

The LET described Reid as one of the tour’s “most gifted and charismatic players” and a “larger-than-life character who was held in great affection by her fellow tour players, caddies and staff.”

“Sorry to hear. Dale was a fierce competitor. Her humour and personality will be missed. RIP,” Annika Sorenstam posted on X.

“Gritty competitor with humour second to none. Two things I’ll never forget courtesy of Dale: a singles beat down at the ‘92 Solheim Cup and her nickname for the LPGA Chick-Fil-A tourney in ATL, tagged by her as the “Chick-Delay” after so many weather interruptions. R.I.P., Dale Reid,” Dottie Pepper put on X.
