Where will the next Solheim Cup be played?
The Solheim Cup will be back in America in 2024, as Team USA will look to use their home advantage to take the trophy
Team Europe will be looking to maximise the home comforts of Finca Cortesin this week to win their third consecutive trophy at the 2023 Solheim Cup.
They won the last renewal of this famous match play tournament two years ago at Inverness Club, Ohio – their first away win since 2013.
Much like the Ryder Cup, Europe and the USA take turns to host the Solheim Cup with a venue on home soil.
It is Europe’s turn to defend the trophy on the continent this year, but where will the Solheim Cup 2024 be held, and have further venues decided?
Solheim Cup 2024
The next Solheim Cup will be held at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. It is a private club that was opened in 1991 and usually plays between 5,570 and 7,425 yards.
The course was founded by the man himself, and designed by him too. RTJ is located about 30 miles from Washington DC and is on Lake Manassa.
Jones has previously described the terrain as “aesthetically perfect” – he’s also created other legendary venues such as Spyglass Hill, Bellerive Country Club and Congressional Country Club.
The course hosted the first-ever Presidents Cup in 1994 and did so again in 1996, 2000 and 2005. The USA won on all four occasions.
The course also hosted the 2015 Tiger Woods’ Quicken Loans National and seven years later, it was awarded the privilege of hosting the 2024 Solheim Cup Tournament of Champions.
How do players qualify?
Team USA started building Solheim Cup points from the 2023 Hilton Grand Vacations. Players finishing in the top 40 at official LPGA Tour events will earn points. Those points are doubled in the majors and in the Solheim Cup year, all points values will increase.
At the end of the qualification period, the top seven US players will make the team, joined by the top two players in the Rolex Rankings (world golf rankings) not already in and three captain’s picks.
What about the 2026 Solheim Cup?
The 2026 Solheim Cup will be held at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, Netherlands. This venue has hosted the last three editions of the Dutch Open on the DP World Tour.
The venue for the 2028 Solheim Cup is yet to be announced.
