Just two weeks on from the Masters, the Chevron Championship takes centre stage as the first women’s major of 2025.

The event dates back more than five decades to 1972, and it became part of the major championship schedule ten years later.

Since becoming a major tournament back in 1983, the event has always been the opening major of the women’s season, and the start of the golfing summer!

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at The Club at Carlton Woods will play host to the tournament after the tournament moved to the venue in Texas for the 2023 edition.

Nelly Korda won her second major title at this tournament in 2024, beating Sweden’s Maja Stark by two shots. It was her fifth win of seven in an unbelievable LPGA Tour season for the American.

Chevron Championship Preview: FAQ

When and where will the Chevron Championship take place?

The 2025 edition of the Chevron Championship will be held at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at the venue will play host, with the tournament being held from April 24-27.

Who won last year’s Chevron Championship?

American Nelly Korda was the victor at Carlton Woods, as she claimed her second major championship victory. She finished on 13-under-par after shooting three-under-par in the final round in Texas.

What is the history of the tournament?

The Chevron Championship dates back to 1972, when David Foster and Dinah Shore founded the tournament, with the original name of the event featuring the latter.

The original name was the Colgate-Dinah Shore Winner’s Circle, and for the first decade, it was just a normal LPGA Tour event. The competition received major championship status for the 1983 edition, and was officially known as the Nabisco Dinah Shore.

1999 saw Dottie Pepper set the record for the lowest aggregate score and the lowest score to par. She finished 19-under with an aggregate of 269. A year later, Australian Karrie Webb set the record for the biggest winning margin, taking the title by a whopping ten shots.

The 2000 edition was the first to be called the Nabisco Championship, with the event also being called the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the ANA Inspirational since the turn of the 21st Century.

The tournament became known as the Chevron Championship (due to sponsorship reasons) for the 2022 edition. That would also be the last at Mission Hills, which had hosted the competition since its inception five decades earlier.

The 2023 edition of the Chevron Championship was hosted at The Club at Carlton Woods, and the tournament continues to be played on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.

Amy Alcott, Betsy King and Annika Sorenstam have all won the tournament three times, while Juli Inkster, Dottie Pepper, Karrie Webb and Brittany Lincicombe are all two-time winners of the Chevron.

How do you qualify?

As the first major of the 2025 season, the qualifying criteria are somewhat different to most normal LPGA Tour events. Like the Masters, all previous winners are permitted to play, along with major winners and LPGA Tour winners.

Here are the categories of entries for the 2025 Chevron Championship:

  • Previous winners of the Chevron Championship
  • Winners of the US Women’s Open, Women’s PGA Championship, Amundi Evian Championship and AIG Women’s Open in the last five years
  • Winners on the LPGA Tour in the last three years
  • Players in the top 10 at the previous year’s Chevron Championship
  • Players in the top 80 of the previous year’s LPGA Tour’s Race to CME Globe Points List
  • Players in the top 40 of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings
  • Top 2 players on each of the Ladies European Tour, LPGA Tour of Japan and LPGA Tour of Korea
  • Top 100 on the current year’s LPGA Tour Race to CME Globe Points List
  • Sponsors exemptions and tournament invitations

What are the odds for the 2025 Chevron Championship?

The markets for the 2025 Chevron Championship will be available in tournament week.

Is there a cut at the event?

The Chevron Championship features a field of 132 players, but not all of those will make it through to the weekend’s action in Texas.

Out of those 132 players, only the top 60 and ties will make it through to play in the final two rounds. From there, we will find out who the first women’s major champion of 2025 is.

How can I watch the action from The Woodlands?

The event will be broadcast around the world by various broadcast partners. In the United Kingdom, action from all four days of the tournament will be shown live on Sky Sports.

  • Thursday 24th – Sky Sports Golf from 4 pm and Sky Sports Main Event from 11 pm
  • Friday 25th – Sky Sports Golf from 4 pm and Sky Sports Main Event from 11 pm
  • Saturday 26th – Sky Sports Golf from 7 pm
  • Sunday 27th – Sky Sports Golf from 7 pm

Comprehensive coverage, including live scoring and player highlights, will be available on the LPGA Tour website and app.

How much will the winner take home from Carlton Woods?

The winner of the tournament pocketed $1,200,000 from the total prize purse of $7,900,000. This will be the purse for 2025.
