The AIG Women’s Open is such an exciting event, especially where the last few years have been concerned.
Royal Porthcawl in Wales is the home of the event in 2025 and has recently hosted the Senior Open Championship in 2017 and 2023, and also the Amateur Championship in 1951, 1965, 1973, 1980 and 1988, 2002 and 2016. Sir Michael Bonallack won the first edition held at Porthcawl.
In 2024 at the AIG Women’s Open, Lydia Ko carded a final-round 69 on the Old course at St Andrews to win her third major title. She beat Nelly Korda and Jiyai Shin by two shots on 7-under-par, winning an event with an absolutely stacked leaderboard.
“It’s been a crazy past few weeks. You know, something that was too good to be true happened, and I honestly didn’t think it could be any better and here I am as the AIG Women’s Open Champion this week. Obviously that being here at the Old Course at St Andrews, it makes it so much more special.
“I just loved being out there. I had a lot of family members here with me. I played here when I was 16 in 2013. I don’t think I got to really enjoy and realise what an amazing place this is, and now that I’m a little older and hopefully a little wiser, I just got to realise what an historic and special place this golf course is, and it’s honestly been such a fairytale.
“I’m on Cloud Nine, really.”
Last year, Ko teed off with Alexa Pano at 1.55 pm in the final round in the Auld Grey Toon from hole 1. The final group of Lilia Vu and Jiyai Shin played at 2.15 pm.
In 2025, Miyu Yamashita and A Lim Kim will tee off at 2.20 pm in the final round. Charley Hull plays at 2 pm with Megan Khang. Below are the tee times and the third round leaderboard.
