LIV Golf has confirmed its latest capture ahead of its Chicago event, penning down a deal to sign Arizona State amateur David Puig in a move which will see the 20-year-old Spaniard turn professional.
Puig has already featured twice in LIV Golf as an amateur, placing 40th in the league’s inaugural event at Centurion and 42nd at Bedminster.
But following his announcement on Instagram, Puig will now officially start cashing in the checks as he tees up for his professional debut at LIV Golf Chicago.
“Although it has probably been the hardest decision that I’ve ever made, I’ve decided to turn professional this week.” Puig said on the post. “However, I’m still an ASU student and plan to graduate in the next year.”
Ranked No 9 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings before the switch, Puig replaces Adrian Otaegui in the field and will join the Torque GC team alongside Joaquin Niemann, Scott Vincent and Jed Morgan.
The fifth LIV Golf Invitational takes place this weekend at Rich Harvest Farms, just outside Chicago.
