Shane Lowry and Wendy Honner have been married since 2016. Let’s go a little deeper into how this came about

Shane Lowry has been on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour scene for some time, and he has plenty to show for it.

He remarkably beat Robert Rock in a playoff to win the 2009 Irish Open as an amateur and six years later, he won for the first time on the PGA Tour at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. He somewhat came of age with this win.

2019 became an incredibly memorable year which started with a win at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and culminated with a huge victory at The Open Championship at Royal Portrush, in front of a home Irish crowd.

He’s only won once individually since then at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in 2022, but he and Rory McIlroy also won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans together in 2024. Lowry mixes PGA Tour and DP World Tour events into his schedule, having played 20 times in the States and six times in Europe in 2024 by the end of October.

He’s had eight other major top 10s as well, so you wouldn’t rule out the popular Irishman from winning more majors and for over a decade now, Wendy Honner has been by his side.

It is said that Lowry and Wendy met on a random night out in 2012 and it wouldn’t take long for Lowry to propose two years later. The pair got married in New York in 2016, but don’t think they went mad with the ceremony and celebrations.

“The guest list (was spiralling) and I get stressed very easily, so we decided the big white wedding at home was not what we wanted,” he said to the Irish Independent. “Anyone who knows Wendy knows that she doesn’t like the limelight or anything like that – It was really all very chilled.”

Lowry and Wendy live in Clara in County Offaly, Ireland and also have a residence in Jupiter, Florida where many of the world’s biggest golf stars live including McIlroy and Tiger Woods. They also have daughters Iris and Ivy and it was his win in Abu Dhabi in 2019 that he has previously spoken so fondly about from a family perspective.

“I’ll be honest, as soon as we had Iris, that’s what I’d dreamed about. To have both Wendy and Iris in Abu Dhabi as I won was just dream stuff, something I wouldn’t really let myself think about until it actually happened because you’d only get emotional thinking about it.”

At the Tour Championship in Atlanta, Lowry posted a great clip of his daughters waiting for him as he walked off the 18th green at East Lake. “I’ve had a lot of good moments this year but this is by far the coolest,” was the caption.

While there is no sign of a third child (yet) in the Lowry family, it seems he and Wendy have invested in a dog called Paddy which he revealed on Instagram in early October 2024.
