DP World Tour announces new-look 2024 schedule

The DP World Tour has announced the 2024 schedule which includes a number of never-seen-before features for next season

The DP World Tour has announced its schedule for 2024 and it has a very different look to it.

There will be events across five continents with 44 tournaments being held in 24 countries around the world.

A record prize fund of almost $150 million (excluding the majors) will be on offer across the 2024 DP World Tour schedule.

What are the changes in the DP World Tour 2024 schedule?

The biggest change to the DP World Tour schedule for its 2024 calendar is the three-phase approach.

There will be five geographically localised swings in the opening phase. That will be followed by the ‘Back 9’, which features some of the Tour’s most historic events.

The 2024 DP World Tour season will then culminate in its final phase – the DP World Tour Playoffs.

The five Rolex Series events remain the same, with the only change being a move in the schedule for the Abu Dhabi Championship.

That tournament now becomes the first of the two DP World Tour Playoffs events, followed by the usual season-finale, the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic, Genesis Scottish Open and BMW PGA Championship will be the other three Rolex Series events in 2024.

The Dubai Invitational and the Bahrain Championship will make their debut appearances on the schedule, while the Volvo China Open returns for the first time since 2019.

The Danish Golf Championship and the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo both move dates compared to the 2023 calendar.

The Nedbank Golf Challenge Hosted by Gary Player moves into December and will be one of the opening events on the Tour’s 2025 schedule.

Keith Pelley, the DP World Tour’s Chief Executive, said: “Our 2024 season will see our members come together to compete across a global schedule, with greater opportunities and rewards than ever before.

“The many new and original enhancements we have introduced will guarantee drama and excitement for our fans, our broadcasters and all our stakeholders across the entire season and means, more than ever, that every week counts on the DP World Tour.”

What are the three phases of the 2024 schedule?

The Global Swings

The first and longest phase of next season’s DP World Tour calendar will be the ‘Global Swings’ section.

The ‘Opening Swing’, the ‘International Swing’, the ‘Asian Swing’, the ‘European Swing’ and the ‘Closing Swing’ will be the five sections of the first phase of the calendar.

Each swing will have its own individual rankings and its own champion, who will earn $200,000. Swing Champions will also qualify for each of the ‘Back 9’ events.

The five Swings will also offer qualification into the first three Rolex Series events:

  • The leading member (not otherwise exempt) from the Opening Swing will qualify for the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
  • The leading member (not otherwise exempt) from each of the International Swing, the Asian Swing and the European Swing will qualify for the Genesis Scottish Open.
  • The leading member (not otherwise exempt) from the Closing Swing will qualify for the BMW PGA Championship.

There will be 10 spots available in each of the ‘Back 9’ events for the highest-ranked members (not otherwise exempt) within the top 110 on the Race to Dubai Rankings. Those will go to the top performers on the Global Swings.

The ‘Back 9’

The second phase of the 2024 schedule will be the ‘Back 9’, which will feature the DP World Tour’s most historic tournaments and national opens.

It begins with the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at the end of August. The likes of the Horizon Irish Open, acciona Open de Espana presented by Madrid, the Open de France and the BMW PGA Championship all feature in this run of nine tournaments.

The leading 15 non-members of the DP World Tour from the top 70 on the FedEx Cup will be eligible to play in the events on the ‘Back 9’.

The top 110 players on the Race to Dubai Rankings at the conclusion of this phase in October will earn their DP World Tour cards for 2025 while the top 70 will make it through to the DP World Tour Play-Offs.

The DP World Tour Play-Offs

The last phase of next year’s calendar will be the DP World Tour Play-Offs.

It will comprise of the final two Rolex Series events, the Abu Dhabi Championship and the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

The Abu Dhabi Championship will move from its usual place in the calendar in January to start the Playoffs.

In line with the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the leading 70 players on the Race to Dubai rankings will feature, with the top 50 then qualifying for the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

At the conclusion of the DP World Tour’s 2024 season, the leading ten players will share a $6 million Bonus Pool. Finally, at the end of the current 2023 season, the top ten DP World Tour members on the final 2024 Race to Dubai Rankings (not otherwise exempt) will earn PGA TOUR cards for the 2025 season.

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
