We are two rounds through the PGA Championship, and there are some big names who have missed the cut at the halfway stage at Quail Hollow Golf Club.

From major champions to Ryder Cup stars, there are plenty of surprise names that failed to make it through the weekend.

The PGA Championship is taking place at the Charlotte venue for the second time, and the first since Justin Thomas’ victory in 2017.

There has been some great scoring this week at the PGA, with a large group of players under par heading into the last two days of the second major of the year.

Jhonattan Vegas held a two-shot lead over Matthieu Pavon, Matt Fitzpatrick and Si Woo Kim after 36 holes of action in North Carolina.

The cut line came at 1-over-par, with 62 players making it through to the third round.

But who has failed to make it through to the final two rounds?

Who has missed the cut at the PGA Championship?

Major champions, Ryder Cup stars, players in the top ten in the world rankings – There were plenty of stars who shot 2-over-par or worse across two rounds this week.

The European Ryder Cup trio Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Ludvig Aberg respectively finished on 2-over, 3-over, and 9-over after Friday.

Aberg shot a 1-under 70 in round one and looked fine, just six shots behind 18-hole leader Vegas, but he made two double-bogeys on day two on his way to a disappointing 75.

The biggest of names – Phil Mickelson – took four shots to get out of a greenside bunker on the par-4 12th hole on his way to a quadruple bogey, and a 72 after a Thursday 79. Lefty won his sixth major title at this event in 2021.

Three-time PGA champion and Mickelson’s LIV Golf colleague Brooks Koepka was equally as disappointing. The American shot 75 and 76 to give himself no hope of playing at the weekend.

Jordan Spieth shot a much-improved score of 68 on day two, making three birdies and an eagle at the par-5 10th hole. This took him to 2-over for the championship, which looked safe to proceed to the weekend for much of the second round, but it wasn’t to be. He still needs the Wanamaker Trophy to complete the career grand slam.

Shane Lowry
Ludvig Aberg
