First Impressions
As soon as I saw these shoes on display at the PGA Show in Orlando this January, I was obsessed. The bold pink colourway stood out immediately, and I also love the athletic sporty styling. I am a big fan of the sock-like ankle design and the knit upper design. Fear not if pink is not your colour, you can also get these in a more subtle white option.

On Course Testing
I have put these shoes through some serious testing, having completed ten rounds of golf in them, in a wild assortment of weather and on numerous different golf courses. I typically wear a UK size 6 golf shoe and found this size was perfect in the HyperFlex model.
I was especially excited to try these as they are a spiked offering. I know spikeless is all the rage currently, but I have a lot of foot movement in my golf swing and prefer a shoe that is extra stable. These definitely didn’t disappoint.

The combination of the spikes and the OptiFlex plate in the sole provides multi-directional rigidity and serious stability out on the course.
The dark pink thermoplastic sections on the side of the shoe are what FootJoy are calling a ‘power stabiliser’. These provide enhanced stability across your entire foot by extending your connection to the ground for greater leverage and maximum energy transfer. This also gives you a really secure fit around your foot.

I was really impressed with how comfortable these felt underfoot as well. This is thanks to an Ortholite Impressions FitBed underfoot and cutouts in the sole plate to help give more energy return on the course.
Talking of comfort, these have to be one of the most comfortable shoes I have tested straight out of the box. The stratofoam cushioning system underfoot is really soft and absorbs shock keeping your feet fresh even after a full round of golf.
I also really like the sock-style detailing around the ankle, it is very soft and means you don’t have to worry about rubbing and getting blisters. There is enough stretch in this material that the shoe is still really easy to get on and off.
The knitted mesh upper has a waterproof coating that works fantastically well in wet conditions. I have been in wet rough in these and also in torrential rain, and at all points my feet have remained dry. What I also like about this coating is the fact it makes these shoes really easy to wipe clean. I have been playing with these for over a month now, and they still look as good as new as any mud and grass can easily be cleared away.
The 19th hole
The nature of a spiked shoe makes this not as versatile as other offerings once you get off the golf course. While I would happily wear this around the club house for a drink after my round, it probably won’t be making an appearance elsewhere.
Overall I have loved testing these FootJoy HyperFlex golf shoes, they have quickly become one of my favourite golf shoes and will be getting lots more wear out on the golf course this year.
