The Cobra OPTM Max-K is all about one thing and that’s keeping the ball in play. With a 10K MOI head, a deep centre of gravity and Cobra’s new POI technology this is one of the straightest drivers Cobra has ever produced.
It launches high but does spins a little more than the rest of the OPTM range. It’s also down on ball speed compared to other models. If fairways hit matter more to you than raw distance, the Max-K deserves serious consideration.

First Impressions
At address, I found the Max-K sits very confidently behind the ball. The head is noticeably more elongated front to back than the standard OPTM X, which shows its extra bit of forgiveness.
The crown is clean and dark, with subtle alignment lines on the face that frame the ball well and make it easy to set up square.
It’s not compact or player-shaped in the traditional sense, but it doesn’t look overly wide which I find some maximum forgiveness fall into the trap. It means golfers who oppose big drivers heads aren’t completely ostracised.
NCG Verdict
On course and on the launch monitor, I found the Max-K does exactly what it says on the tin. Launch is higher and the spin rates are up slightly compared to the other OPTM models.
Elsewhere the ball speed drops a touch but this an expected trait from a high-MOI driver.
What stood out was just how difficult it is to miss the fairway. Even thin or slightly off-centre strikes fly straight and stay in play. For players who value accuracy over squeezing out every last yard, this will be hugely appealing.
It is only natural with a higher launch and lower ball speeds that carry distances are a little shorter than the LS or X heads. But the trade-off is consistency.

Shot after shot starts on line, with minimal curvature, making the Max-K feel extremely dependable from the tee.
Cobra has equipped this with a 10K MOI driver head and also has a single rear weight positioned as far back as possible to boost forgiveness.
Additionally, Cobra’s new AI-designed face is included in the design. It has 15 distinct hot spots to increase performance across the whole face.
You can see by these tech inclusions that this is very much a forgiveness-first driver, but one that still wants to deliver speed.
Final Thoughts
Cobra has produced one of the straightest, most forgiving drivers on the market. The OPTM Max-K may not be the longest Cobra driver ever made, but it could well be the easiest to hit.
If your main goal is to keep the ball in play and take stress out of your driving, this is a seriously impressive option. It is also available at a competitive price and it represents excellent value in a crowded driver market.
