NCG SUMMARY
PXG are only into their second iteration of golf ball releases. They have certainly made big strides on their previous attempt with the release of the PXG Xtreme Tour X golf ball.
One of the big concerns with the original model was that it didn’t produce enough distance and they have put that right emphatically. PXG have also developed something that feels great and has plenty of spin for controlled approach shots.

PXG Xtreme Tour X Golf Ball review: First Impressions
I thought the packaging was especially clean. I am a big fan of the white and silver boxes, it seems professional and more special somehow.
NCG Verdict
Right off the bat, I’m going to make a bold claim and say the PXG Xtreme Tour X golf balls are a strong contender for golf ball of the year. This is the higher launching and higher spinning option from PXG’s latest golf ball release.
The ball has a urethane cover and therefore feels great off the putter face. Putting is all about feel and this golf ball has that in abundance. In addition to the feel, it also sounds right and offers plenty of feedback on each putting stroke.
When it comes to spin around the greens this acts like a tour ball in all aspects. I was able to produce a very consistent amount of spin when hitting wedge shots into the green. An average spin rate of 7349rpm from 50 yard wedge strikes with every shot in the range of 200rpm of each other which was impressive.
The launch was also consistent and I liked its performance with a putter in hand and I enjoyed the feel of the ball coming off the face of the wedge.
I think it’s when you move further up in the bag towards the longer irons where you really see the technologies in the ball start to work to enhance the performance. I was able to average a 120mph ball speed with a 7-iron which is a really good return for me.

This ultimately led to a whopping average carry of 168.5 yards – about as good as I could possibly ask for. It does have a firmer feel than the base model of the PXG Xtreme Tour model and there is an obvious difference in ball flight height between the two.
The numbers get even better when it comes to the performance off the tee with a driver in hand. A 164, 162 and a 162mph ball speeds are the fastest I have recorded in testing new golf balls this year. This notched the average total distance above the 300 yard mark which I was extremely pleased with. I even managed to carry one strike 290 yards, not something I thought I would be saying about a PXG golf ball.
Overall, I think this golf ball shows just how big of a stride the brand has taken with its golf balls in an attempt to close the gap on the rest of the industry. This is only their second attempt at making golf balls and are a sizeable improvement on the first.
PXG have certainly addressed the distance concerns of the previous model, whilst also improving on their performance around the greens.
I have nothing but good things to say about the PXG Xtreme Tour golf ball, so give it a go.
