The day at the PGA: No contingency for weather delay spoils SaturdayJuly 30, 2016 Latest news
Storms force a suspension in play before the leaders even tee off. But could the PGA have done more?
Talking point: Why no contingency plan?
Heavy rain and storms had been forecast for Saturday afternoon so why did the PGA not move the the times forward and have a two tee start?
Why wait until 2.55pm for the final groups to go out? The rain delay started at about 2.20pm. Ten players were yet to tee off.
Now with even more bad weather forecast in New Jersey we could be looking at a Tuesday finish.
I know the PGA can’t control the weather but it’s their job to do as much as they can to give the Baltusrol spectators and the watching millions a golf tournament.
Shot of the day: Ryan Palmer
The second hole produced another eagle hole out. On Friday it was Hideki Matsuyama, Saturday was Ryan Palmers turn. Yes sir! As Butch Harmon would say.

We are surprised by: Padraig Harrington
You don’t hear anything from him for a while, forget he’s even in the field and then he fires one of the low rounds of the day to take the clubhouse lead. He was overtaken by Kevin Kisner but will be fairly happy on -4 after a superb 65. Currently five shots off the lead but god knows when the leaders will complete their third rounds.
Harrington has definitely gone under the radar this year. Despite being a former champion no one talked up his chances coming into this week.
He, like a few others, believes that if he can get himself into contention on a Major Sunday then he may have a fourth one in him.
One thing is for sure, no one would relish going head-to-head with the 44-year-old.
We are not surprised by: Phil Mickelson’s resilience
After opening his second round with a triple, many players would have sulked their way to a missed cut.
Mickelson had to hang tough and eventually made the cut on the number.
In his third round, it wasn’t exactly fireworks but four birdies and two bogeys left the 2005 champion in the clubhouse on -1.
Whether he is battling for the lead or fighting to make the cut he always plays with so much heart. Please play in Majors forever Phil.
Worst outfit: Hideki Matsuyama
This is becoming a regular occurrence. Anyone else think he looks like someone who should be working at the snack bar?

It's all hindsight now, but if the PGA of America had moved up tee times, here's how the day could've played out: pic.twitter.com/njwBBhHCFd
