It’s an intimidating situation that can lead to all kinds of errors. Follow the advice of Dan Whittaker and commit to the dreaded tight tee shot with the driver

When staring a narrow fairway in the face, most people’s natural reaction isn’t to reach for the chief, but sometimes, that’s the correct play. Elite coach Dan Whittaker shared his top tips for how to hit a tight tee shot with driver…

How to hit a tight tee shot with driver: The main points

It’s important to be specific. Pick out a small target in the distance and bring that back to an intermediate target to help with alignment – that is crucial. This will reduce your misses so even your bad shots aren’t as destructive.

Finally, I would never encourage anyone to fight their natural shot shape in this situation, but if you tend to put a lot of curve on the ball, it’s a good idea to straighten the flight slightly.

Want to find out the best way to do this with the driver? You’ll have to watch the video…

This instruction video was filmed at Lumine Golf Club, host venue of the 2019 European Tour Qualifying School. For more information, visit their website.
