Are you tired of breaking the bank for a new driver that promises the world but delivers very little improvement in reality?

Could the Benross BR-Pro be the answer and take the title of unsung hero by offering impressive performance at a fraction of the cost (£329) compared to its more famous competitors?

In this review, I will delve into the details of my experience with the Benross BR-Pro, revealing whether this under-the-radar driver is worth considering when looking to purchase a new driver.

I have tested most of the mainstream drivers and I can tell you this driver surprised me the most.

Hands up, at first glance, I was sceptical. I mean, Benross isn’t necessarily a big name in the golf world, and I wasn’t expecting much from a driver that didn’t come with a hefty price tag.

As soon as I took my first swing and connected, I knew I was totally wrong.

For me, this club not only produced improvements on my club head and ball speed, but the dispersion was also mighty impressive.

In short – you would be mad not to test this driver against the more expensive alternatives provided by the more famous competitors.

Benross BR-Pro Driver: First Impressions

As I picked up the Benross BR-Pro driver for the first time, I was struck by how well it felt and looked. The premium carbon fibre finish exuded quality, and the sleek, modern design instantly caught my eye. I do like a dome-type finish as opposed to a more square head. It also comes with a nice headcover which finishes the club off nicely.

The initial handling of the BR-Pro did make me feel like I was handling a more premium end product and so I was excited to give it a whack.

The testing took place at the Leeds-based Scarcroft Golf Club driving range using the Rapsodo MLM2PRO launch monitor.

NCG Verdict

I am aged 47, 8 handicap golfer with a slowish swing speed. I don’t hit the ball a great distance, but the strength of my game is generally the consistency of my driving. I can hit the ball both ways, but I do favour a fade off the tee.

As I hit the Ben Ross BR-Pro, I was really impressed on how it the ball sounded off the club. The sound was anything but budget – no ping sound or it feeling hollow. The ball seemed to fly off the face with ease, and I found myself hitting drives that were pleasing to the eye and straight. If anything, I was able to hit a slight draw.

Now, let’s get to the all-important numbers…….

Looking at the above the average carry was 221.5 with a total of 238.2 yards. Club head speed at 98.6 and ball speed at 135.6 mph. Launch was 18.6a with descent angle 47.2 yards. Dispersion was between 0.6 right to 14.5 yards left.

The first thing I noticed was the increased club head speed achieved with the BR-Pro driver. To be touching 100mph, for me, is impressive. I tend to think of my driver as a 220-yard carry club so the 230-yard carry is also pleasing.

There is no taking away from the fact that the BR-Pro driver delivers on club and ball speed – especially when you time it as per my second shot. Even my worst shot produced acceptable numbers and so demonstrating the forgiveness provided in the club.

The offline numbers were good, and so I was not having to sacrifice accuracy for distance or vice versa.

If you had to quibble about this club then you might say the ball was being launched and landing at a slightly higher numbers than normal – so not as penetrating as my own club. But I did not feel it ballooning into the air, in fact the complete opposite, and was very happy with the ball flight and shape.

When I did time one the launch and descent angles came down and so suggests that the difference in the figures are probably more down to user incompetence than anything to do with the club – some shots you time it, other shots you struggle.

In short – this club served an important life lesson – never presume anything! My numbers speak for themselves and at £329 this driver has to be on your radar if you are considering to purchase a new one. It might just surprise you and exceed your own expectations.

As ever, I recommend going and getting fitted, assess the data and decide on what is right for you.

About the author

Paul has been playing golf for around a fourth of a Century, whilst his time on this Earth is rapidly approaching half a Century!
