TaylorMade have upped their game in the last few years when it comes to golf balls. The TP5 and the TPx5 are TaylorMade’s tour standard golf balls both offering different but high performance depending on your game. Today we are looking at the TaylorMade TP5x to find out if it’s the golf ball for you.

NCG SUMMARY

The TaylorMade TPX5 golf ball launches higher and adds distance without losing that spin and feel every golfer is after. Its 5 piece construction makes this a tour worthy ball and could be a game changer in your bag.

PROS

  • More Distance
  • Higher launch
  • Spin with approach shots

CONS

  • Less feel around the greens
  • Harder outer shell

First Impressions

The TaylorMade TP5x has the ultimate goal of gaining distance for you on the golf course without having to sacrifice wanted spin and feel around the greens. The TaylorMade TP5x has a classic arrow alignment aid which allows you to mark your ball however you want.

As well as both the TP5 and the TP5x are available in yellow colour ways and some fun prints from the pix collection. Who knew you could get bacon and eggs on your golf ball?!

NGC Verdict

As one of the TaylorMade staff players’ most popular choices of golf ball, I wanted to give the TaylorMade TP5x a true test of 18 holes.

Off the tee, I was carrying my driver and woods 5-10 yards further due to higher launch and I could really feel the ball springing off the face. I also had an increased roll out. I really liked the stability it gave me off the tee.

Even into the wind, the TaylorMade TP5x had good stability which is sometimes hard to find in a tour performance golf ball. I didn’t notice much difference in the distance with my irons or wedges but I did notice a higher launch pattern. If you hit the ball a little low and want to launch it higher to gain distance this could be a great option.

When it came to spin I was impressed with the stopping power the TaylorMade TP5x had with irons especially my longer irons into par 3’s. However, around the greens, the ball did not check as much as I would have liked, but for someone who likes a chip and run style shot, this could pair great with your game. The TaylorMade TP5 is the softer ball in this range designed for more spin around the greens if that is what you are prioritising.

TaylorMade TPX5 golf ball

The feel of this golf ball was pretty solid off the tee with a little bit of softness around the greens. It did not make a loud sound like some harder golf balls do but is still springing off the face, especially with a putter. For someone who struggles to get their distance putts to the hole, this could be the ball for you.

I like the simple logo on the golf ball which gives you the freedom to customise or mark your ball however you like. I also like the option of a yellow colourway for the winter as this TaylorMade TP5x could be a great winter ball option to help you gain more launch and distance on those colder days.

A box of TaylorMade TP5x retail at £49.99 which is standard for a high-performance tour standard ball and I think the price point is well worth it for the performance.

The TaylorMade TP5x is a great performing ball for distance and stability whilst still having control and spin on approach shots. Although it lacks a soft feel around the green, its fast ball speed makes up for it, giving you confidence over every shot.
