The Srixon Z-Star has long been the main and flagship model in Srixon’s premium golf ball range. Nestled between the firmer XV and the softer Diamond, the Z-Star is built to appeal to a wide range of golfers. In particularly those with swing speeds north of 90mph who demand total control without sacrificing feel.
It is a golf club member’s favourite when looking for tour-like responsiveness around the greens. Off the wedge, it feels great and has serious stopping power.

First Impressions
I’ve always been a fan of the Z Star balls, and when I heard that they were getting a major upgrade, I was excited to get my hands on some. I love and need higher spin pretty much with all my shots, so Srixon’s new spin skin coating, which is supposed to dig into your grooves more, definitely had me interested. Srixon’s new Spin Skin+ coating, which is a micro-layer applied over the urethane, has been introduced to increase friction and enhance spin on shorter shots.
Right out of the sleeve, the Z-Star looks the part. Its urethane cover feels tour-quality, with a noticeably thin, premium finish. You can feel the tackiness in hand, and that extra grip certainly translates on wedge shots.
NCG Review
Off the putter and wedges, the Z-Star delivers a firm but not harsh feel which I think is something low-handicap players will appreciate. It provides excellent feedback without feeling clicky, and the sound off the club face is clean and crisp.
As you can see from the data below, on 50-yard pitches, spin numbers were outstanding, averaging around 7600 rpm. This was more than enough to zip one back on a tight pin. Launch angles were right on the money, and the consistency in carry distance was equally impressive.
With a 7-iron, the Z-Star held its own beautifully. Ball speeds hovered around 118–119 mph, with spin just under 6000 rpm. This was ideal for stopping power on approach shots. A carry of 166 yards rolling out to 175 yards shows this ball isn’t just about greenside control. It delivered reliable yardages throughout the bag for me.

I found driver performance was perhaps the most surprising. My ball speeds reached 162–163 mph, with a stable spin rate averaging 2600 rpm. The Z-Star carried 280 yards with a rollout to 297, making it plenty long while staying in control. That’s a serious distance with a serious amount of spin management, which is a difficult combination to find.
With a compression rating of 92, the Z-Star is designed for faster swingers who can properly compress the ball. This isn’t your average club golfer’s ball, it’s built for players who want precision, control, and feel, especially into and around the greens.
If you’re chasing a soft feel with explosive performance and play a game that leans more toward shot-making than simply hitting it long, the Z-Star should be at the top of your list.
Overall, I think the 2025 Srixon Z-Star delivers everything you’d expect from a tour-level golf ball: spin, speed, and feel, in a durable package. Available in both white and yellow, it’s a premium option with all the trimmings.
