First Impressions
Right out of the box, I found the Mavrik feels like a ball built for speed and endurance. It’s not urethane-covered, which gives it a firmer feel at impact. For me this was particularly noticeable on and around the greens. While it may lack the buttery softness of tour-level balls, the Mavrik’s alignment logo is easy to use and gives a sense of confidence over the putter.
The HEX aerodynamic dimple pattern, a Callaway trademark, helps reduce drag and promotes a slightly higher flight. It’s a small but effective feature that boosts carry distance and consistency, especially for players who prioritise distance over finesse.

During my testing, across the bag I found the Mavrik showed reliable and predictable results.
From 50 yards, my spin rates hovered around 6,200 rpm, which is respectable for a two-piece distance model. While slightly lower than tour-level spin rates, this figure is ideal for the kind of golfer the Mavrik is aimed at, someone seeking consistency and forgiveness rather than aggressive spin control. On slight mishits, I found the ball tended to slide a little up the club face. The performance and carry were still dependable, however.
With a 7-iron, I was able to produce spin rates between 5,300 and 5,500 rpm, resulting in an average carry of 165 yards and a total distance of 170 yards. The peak height of my shots lurked around 95 to 100 feet, which is an excellent trajectory for players looking to hold greens without losing distance.
Although, I found the Mavrik’s real strength emerged with the driver. With super-low spin rates, the ball delivered impressive distance. It combined high launch and long roll-out for impressive overall performance. The combination of low spin and high flight provides the optimal launch conditions for maximum distance, and Callaway deserves credit for achieving this balance in a lower-priced ball.

On the greens, however, I did find the Mavrik doesn’t provide the same buttery feedback of a softer tour ball. But it still offers a responsive and satisfying sound that gives a sense of control.
Conclusion
Overall, the Callaway Mavrik is an excellent option for golfers who prioritise distance, durability, and value over greenside spin and soft feel. It is best suited to players who tend to lose a few balls per round or those who simply prefer a firmer, more resilient cover.
While it may not offer the premium feel of urethane-covered balls or the ultimate spin control demanded by low-handicap players, the Mavrik delivers consistent performance. There is plenty of carry, and exceptional value.
For its price, it is one of the most reliable and efficient distance balls on the market.
