NCG SUMMARY

The Edge cart bag is PowaKaddy’s top of the range. It’s got premium look being made from premium lightweight vinyl and PU materials yet it still very much holds the traditional look you’d expect from PowaKaddy.

The construction means that it does come in just short of a 1kg heavier than the other options in the range.

It’s very spacious and great for a golfer who likes to be well equipped, including external putter holder, umbrella, tee pocket and much more.

PROS

Key benefits and downsides

Key benefitsDownsides
Stylish – The golf bag has a smart appearance with four different colour choices, including a sleek gunmetal option with signature yellow flashes. No External Bottle Holder slots – This can just be an inconvenience when wanting to quickly get bottle for a drink.
Storage – Features ten pockets, including full-length side pockets, 2 Dry Valuables Pockets, cooler pocket and mesh back pocket, ensuring plenty of space for all golf essentials. Not fully waterproof – did well when I got caught in a downpour but not sure how well it would do if you were playing a full round in the rain
Club dividers – Comes with a 14-way divider to keep clubs well-organized and easily accessible – there is an external putter pit, that caters for oversized grips.

First Impressions

Smart looking

This is Powakaddy’s premium golf bag and you can see why. It’s constructed from a premium lightweight vinyl and PU material, meaning to touch its firmer feels sturdy. It comes in four different colourway options but I tested the navy which looks very smart.

Pockets

This bag has plenty of pockets – there’s 10 of them. Two full length pockets are on either side great for keeping apparel in. Then you have an insulated cooler pocket, this is quite large and is well lined so you can keep everything cold on those warmer days. There are 2 dry valuable pockets, these have waterproof zips on them to keep everything dry no matter the weather. There is a small tee pocket that’s quick and easy to access. An umbrella holder is also built in on the side.

I also liked the additional of a small magnetic pocket, this was really conveniently places and easy to access quickly.

How I undertook the review

I tested the golf bag while playing a full 18-hole round at the Brabazon Course at the Belfry, so I could see how it performs over a full round of golf.

I used it on a Powakaddy trolley to check how well it stayed stable and easy to use during play. I also got caught in some heavy rain and so could see how the waterproof features stood up!

What I found

This bag was like a maze as I was unpacking my current bag set up into it, I almost didn’t know where to start as someone who typically uses carry bags.

Plenty of storage

As mentioned there was plenty of storage space in this bag so I didn’t need to skimp on what I was taking out on the course. It was nice to have the pockets on the front that were really easy to access as well as the larger ones on the side.

Mag lock system

I used this Edge bag on a Powakaddy trolley. These work together really well with the Mag Lock system, where the base of the bag slots into the trolley. This means that you don’t need a strap on the bottom to keep the bag in place. Throughout the whole round the bag was incredibly stable on the trolley – so not messing around readjusting. This isn’t unique to this bag as Powakaddy offers it on their whole range but it’s a great feature.

Club dividers and organisation

It comes with a 14-way divider for your clubs which keeps your clubs separated nicely and makes it very easy to find what club you want quickly. This model of bag has an external putter pit. This is a circle slot next to the apparel pocket that can fit any range of putter grip style in so that’s really handy and saves trying to fit it in with your other clubs.

Waterproofness

On the day of testing I managed to get caught out in the heavy downpour, great for testing the waterproof function of this bag. Powakaddy doesn’t claim that this bag is waterproof but it does have 2 dry valuable pockets with waterproof zips to keep in the important things safe. I would say that as a whole the bag did pretty well at keeping my belongings dry but I’m not sure how many more holes of rain it would have withheld.

Only negative

The only real downside I found with this bag was that there wasn’t an external water bottle holder. I know that there are 10 other pockets to go at but it’s always nice to just grab it without messing around with zips.

NCG Final Say

Overall, this is is premium cart bag. It’s a great option for any regular golfer who likes to carry plenty of equipment. It’s not the lightest on the market but that’s not an issue when it’s on a trolley.

How it compares to other bags

It’s got a lot firmer feel than the Powakaddy Dri-tech. This material contributes to it being nearly 1kg heavier. However, it’s packed with more features including an external putter pit something you don’t see on many cart bags.
