Cobra DS-Adapt Irons: Everything You Need To Know!

Cobra have released two sets of new irons as part of the DS-Adapt family. Following on from the success of the previous generation of Darkspeed irons, Cobra have launched a set of irons that can offer something for every golfer.

Cobra DS-Adapt Irons: The Technology

The DS-Adapt irons from Cobra are game-improvement irons, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t suitable for lower handicapper golfers as well. Game-improvement irons are usually aimed at higher handicap golfers that require an extra bit of forgiveness in their irons to help with launch, distance and accuracy.

However, Cobra believe these sets of irons are suitable for most club golfers down to and around a 10 handicap. A lot of amateurs could benefit from the speed, distance, and feel these clubs are designed to provide.

The brand wanted to bring more energy and performance to the golf iron market. Cobra believe that the game-improvement irons are extremely long hitting and that many fitters have had better success with weaker lofted GI heads. Cobra believe that 30% of players have a better ball flight with weaker lofted Cobra fitting heads.

These irons have been designed using a hollow body construction which allows the ball to come off the face of the club much faster. The hollow technology is foamed filled for a better sound and fee, as well as more face flex. This construction also allows for reduced backspin as the ball has a longer face contact time.

A 360 Speedshell face was also developed in the construction of these irons, providing a larger face cup and a similar address profile.

The Speedshell face promotes a thinner leading edge for increased forgiveness as the irons are less likely to dig into the turf upon contact with the ball. A thinner leading edge can lower the centre of gravity to help improve forgiveness on mishit strikes. An expanded speed channel that extends to the toe area is also introduced with the Speedshell face.

Cobra have also included H.O.T Face technology in the DS-Adapt irons. This delivers an optimised variable thickness design for added speed right across the face of the clubs. In term, golfers will be privy to a higher launch, a jump in ball speed and a distance increase on toe and heel strikes.

The irons are also subject to an update pwr-bridge as the larger weightings push the centre of gravity lower and towards the back of the club. Having a low and back CG will aid in the a higher launch and reduced levels of spin to optimise distance.

The pwr-bridge weighting is fixed to the body of the iron to stiffen the structure which results in a better sound energy transfer.

The Cobra DS-Adapt irons range feature three models: DS-Adapt, DS-Adapt MAX, DS-Adapt MAX Women’s irons.

Looks: A shorter blade than the MAX irons with less offset.

Main Attributes: Face creates explosive launch and distance. A re-engineered speed shell allows for quick ball speeds.

Who is it for?: For 10-20 handicap golfers. Those with a low handicap should still consider these forgiving irons.

DS-Adapt MAX Irons

Cobra DS-Adapt irons

Looks: Has a longer blade, thicker topline and more offset.

Main Attributes: Cobra’s most forgiving iron from the range than is the easiest to hit and launch.

Who is it for?: 10-20+ handicap golfers.

DS-Adapt MAX Women’s Irons

Looks: Cavity backed, game-improvement iron.

Main Attributes: A lightweight set up for more speed as well as maximum forgiveness and a high launch.

Who is it for?: A women’s iron suitable for most club golfers.
