Under Armour have, they say, taken their most popular polo shirt and made it even better. Built to be more breathable, extra stretchy, and to have a better fit, the UA Playoff Polo 3.0 might be their best yet. So let’s try it out…

NCG SUMMARY

The Under Armour Playoff 3.0 is the brand’s best polo shirt to date. It looks great, it feels great, and I want it in every colour option.

PROS

  • A nice fitting polo shirt that doesn’t take away from the comfort
  • The extra stretchy fabric doesn’t hinder your swing
  • Eye-catching designs in a number of colour schemes
  • Impressive technology, including UP40 to protect you from the sun

CONS

  • I haven’t found any (yet)

First impressions

They call this design the “Scatter Dot” and I had it in the “white and pink shock” colour scheme.

I was keen on the UA Playoff 3.0 polo shirt when it was on my computer screen. I was even more keen when once it was in my hands.

The design looks great – enough to catch the eye but not overbearing, with the UA logo emblazoned proudly on the chest.

Pulling it on, it was immediately clear just how much time they have spent making this range as comfortable as possible. I am tall and slim and generally wear a medium in t-shirts and polos, and often find the cut of a shirt to be a problem. I didn’t need to worry here, the Playoff 3.0 is complementary to my body shape without being too tight or, indeed, too baggy.

On-course testing

Under Armour say the Playoff 3.0 is made from soft anti-pick, anti-pill fabric which is extremely lightweight so you can move around comfortably without any added bulk. That is immediately apparent from the very first practice swing.

UA also incorporate an anti-odour technology and built-in ultra-violet protection factor of 40+ to protect you from the sun while you play.

The first time I wore this shirt was a baking hot day in the US and – while I’m not a particularly sweaty person, particularly when golfing – I was grateful for the breathable, moisture-wicking technology that keeps you feeling fresh throughout your round.

I’ve worn this shirt a few times since. I may never take it off.

The 19th hole

It’s an incredibly good looking shirt, as I’m sure you’ll agree, and is suitable to wear on any occasions that might require a polo. Are there any, other than golf?

Another aspect I like about this shirt is that you can pull it on straight from the wash without the need to iron it – but if you do, make sure you follow the instructions. (While we’re here thing I’ve found out in recent weeks is that you shouldn’t use fabric softener when washing this sort of garment – so if you’ve learned anything from this review, let it be this.)
