NCG SUMMARY

As a female golfer I’ve had package sets in the past that were plastered with flowers and pink writing at every opportunity. Some women may really like this, 13 year old me loved it but a lot don’t and Vice have really taken this into consideration creating a very sleek plain look throughout the bag.

This package includes a golf bag, driver, hybrid, putter then 6-9, PW and SW. These clubs use a graphite ladies flex shaft and are set to be 1.25 inches shorter than a standard men’s club.

The carry bag is included and has plenty of storage space for your belongings as well as a handy rain hood.

Key benefits and downsides

Key benefitsDownsides
Simple yet stylish – The whole set it a black and white design meaning that it caters to all female golfers.Blade putter – Typically beginner golfers or higher handicappers are better with a mallet putter as they’re more forgiving.
Variety of clubs – You get a driver, hybrid, 6 irons and putter. This is everything you’d need when starting out.
High lofted driver – 12 degree driver head is great as it helps to get the ball up in the air, great when starting out.

First Impressions

Aesthetic design

As a female golfer I’ve had package sets in the past that were plastered with flowers and pink writing at every opportunity. Some women may really like this, 13 year old me loved it but a lot don’t and Vice have really taken this into consideration creating a very sleek plain look throughout the bag. The black and white design would really suit anyone.

The golf bag itself is actually very impressive. It’s a sturdy carry bag with all of the pockets you’d want and need for a round of golf.

Sits on a trolley

Whilst this is a carry bag, I did use it on a trolley for part of the testing. A lot of golfer’s like a bag that you be multi functional and this one sat nicely.

How I undertook the review

I tested this package set while playing a full 18-hole round at Scarfcroft golf club in Leeds, so I could see how it performs over a full round of golf.

I used it on a Navee Birdie 3 electric trolley for part of the round to check how well it stayed stable and easy to use during play.

What I found

In terms of what you get with this set, there’s a good selection of clubs. It’s nice to see a higher lofted driver, Vice has used a 12° head. This is great for a beginner as they’re going to want as much assistance, getting the ball up in the air as they can. Then you get a hybrid, this is a 5H and set at 25°. It interesting that there is no fairway wood but still this is a good tool and one I’m sure a lot of beginners will lean on using.

Moving onto irons there is 6 iron down to 9 iron, so you would expect in a typical set, then PW and SW. The irons aren’t overly chunky like you see in some game improvement irons but still have a large enough head profile to give confidence behind the ball. They did feel nice off the face and had a large enough head profile to give confidence behind the ball.

The putter in this set is a wide blade. Mallet putter tend to be a way more forgiving option and so it’s interesting that they’ve opted for a wide blade. However, the putter is very nice – it looks great behind the ball and makes a nice crisp sound at impact.

Shaft

Vice has used a Boost shaft in these clubs that has a standard women’s flex. This mean’s their best suited for the average female golfer’s swing speed which is typically slower than men’s. They’re also 1.25 inches shorter, again to compensate for the average height difference.

I’m a 5ft 9 woman and regardless of ability these clubs would be too short for me, so this is something to bear in mind.

NCG Final Say

Overall, if you’re a female looking to start golf or looking to get someone you know a starter set this is a great budget friendly option. You get a nice looking set of clubs that has all you need in terms of clubs/bag to get going.

How it compares to other bags

It’s nice to see a women’s starter set that has a carry bag. Set’s that are offered like the Callaway Reva 11 Piece Ladies Golf Package Set only offers a cart bag.
