The Tour Edge Exotics CB irons arrive as the slightly more forgiving counterpart to the brand’s MB blades, a model we loved. The CB irons promise the same compact and traditional players’ profile, while introducing subtle but meaningful technology to add a tad more forgiveness without sacrificing any of the purity which make Tour Edge irons what they are.

NCG Summary

Tour Edge CB Irons
4.5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The Exotics CB irons are one of the most underrated offerings in the players’ cavity-back category. They produce excellent spin, maintain traditional lofts, deliver a soft forged feel, and offer just enough stability to assist with slight mishits. For golfers who want Tour-level looks and control with a touch more playability, these irons represent outstanding value and deserve far more attention than they currently receive.

PROS

  • Beautiful compact and traditional profile
  • Impressive spin rates
  • Love the feel

CONS

  • Distance drop-off on mishits is noticeable

First Impressions

The CB irons immediately impressed with their restrained design. They share the same sleek profile as the MB irons, with a slim topline, compact blade length, and a minimal cavity that remains hidden at address. I like how Tour Edge hasn’t over-designed the back of the club, creating a clean and professional aesthetic. The traditionalists amongst you will be grateful for this. I do think the irons feel refined in the hands and but still offer the unmistakable sense of working with a players’ club.

NCG Verdict

I actually tested the MB and CB irons one after the other, which made the differences between the two sets clear and easy to identify. Certainly for me, the CB irons retained much of the MB’s excellent feel but offered noticeably more forgiveness, particularly on slight mishits. The added stability from the small cavity and the VIBRCOR insert meant that off-centre shots felt less punishing and I could still get more speed.

Tour Edge CB Irons

Something that impressed me massively was how soft the irons felt. They felt just like a blade while still delivering the benefits of a cavity-back design. Additionally, these irons offer plenty of control. I was impressed with how the controlled, traditional spin profile delivered plenty of spin to be able to hold greens more effectively.

Despite the compact size, the irons launched well enough thanks to the low centre of gravity. Although the peak height was not especially high.

One thing I must emphasise that these are not distance-chasing irons. Instead the focus is on control rather than raw yardage. My best shots did carry around 163–165 yards with a seven iron, which I’d take very day of the week. The distance did drop-off on mishits, so if you are going to take advantage of these then you really need to be a consistent ball striker.

Tour Edge CB Irons

One of the strongest attributes of the Exotics CB irons is how well they blend with the MB blades. The two models look nearly identical at address, making a mixed set pretty seamless.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think the Tour Edge Exotics CB irons provide a rare combination of blade-like feel, elite-level spin, compact shaping, and subtle forgiveness. They offer everything a better player should want from a players’ cavity-back iron while delivering it at a price point that significantly undercuts the mainstream competition. The irons blend beautifully with the MB model and merit serious consideration from anyone seeking precision without excessive punishment.

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
