The Under Armour Drive joggers are the most comfortable golf trousers I’ve ever worn. Scratch that, they might be the most comfortable trousers I’ve ever worn full stop.
PROS
- I’ll repeat: The most comfortable golf trousers I’ve ever worn
- The cuffed ankles sit nicely and never feel like they’re constantly riding up your leg
- The elastic waistband features a silicone lining to prevent your shirt coming untucked
- They don’t shift in the golf swing (you know what I’m talking about, fellow men)
- At £70 they sit firmly in the excellent-value-for-money price range

First impressions
When I opened the Drive joggers, I was immediately taken by how nice the fabric is. Perhaps it was the “joggers” in the name, but here in the UK we associate that with a more cotton-polyester combo. These, though, are a more golf trouser-like polyester and elastane mix.
In terms of pockets, two on the front, two on the back, just how we like it, and there’s even a little zip pocket thrown in just below the waist band. The UA logo is unoffensively noted in the usual position.
As with any item of clothing, your first thoughts are about comfort. Golf trousers have long been my apparel nemesis. I always go for my usual size – 34 waist, 32 leg – but I can never seem to get it right. (Or, perhaps I should say, the manufacturer never seems to get it right.)
The Drive joggers come in the usual size range of S-XXL. Now, my body is odd in that my height comes from my torso and my legs are actually relatively normal (thanks, mum) so I went for Large as per UA’s handy size chart.
There are also no belts required here. The UA Drive joggers have a modern elasticated waistband with old school drawstring technology. At the bottom of each tapered leg is an elasticated cuff that sits nicely on your ankle. I’m always a bit anxious with these that they’ll ride up your leg and you’re constantly pulling them back into position, but thankfully I haven’t found that to be the case.
Just wearing them around the house, I was extremely satisfied with how comfortable they are. I don’t want to say they’re the most comfortable golf trousers I’ve ever worn just yet, because I haven’t worn them out on the course at this point.

On-course testing
So let’s get swinging. With more regular golf trousers, things tend to shift (that noise you hear is a thousand men nodding in unison) and the freedom of movement is restricted, but the UA Drive joggers – and just two paragraphs later I’ve decided to stick my neck out – are the most comfortable golf trousers I’ve ever worn.
At no point in my round did I feel like I was making adjustments, or having to tuck my shirt back in after a swing – all these little things that you don’t really notice until they’re not there any more. There’s none of that annoying chafing when you’re walking, they don’t ride or slide, they don’t cling to your legs – even as slim fit – and, crucially, they aren’t flapping about while you’re standing over a slippy four-footer.
In terms of weather conditions, I tested these on a chilly day with a threat of rain in the air and I didn’t at any point feel like I need an extra layer (those are for up top, right?) and the slimline fit means slipping waterproofs on and off in wet weather will be no issue.
I can’t find anything to criticise about the UA Drive joggers and, at £70, are excellent value for money in a market where prices are on the up.
Golf joggers? They’re the future, but now. And these are up there with the best.
The 19th hole
Golf trousers – particularly from brands like Under Armour – are becoming less and less about being golf trousers and more and more about being trousers you can also wear for golf. While the Drive joggers have all the right design and technology for the golf swing, they also wouldn’t look out of place in any other walk of life. I’ve found them particularly useful at my son’s football training, for example.
I may never take them off.
