Srixon released their first super game improvement irons as part of their expanded ZXi range. It is their most significant move yet into the game improvement space and doing it as part of their already acclaimed ZXi line-up is going to be a home run, right?

You’ll be pleased to hear that typical Srixon shaping we have all grown to love over the years is still present. The brand believes these are the perfect sets of irons to deliver the feel and forgiveness all golfers crave without having to compromise by opting for game improvement irons over player ones. But how do they do they achieve this?

To find out how, here’s everything you need to know about Srixon’s latest adventure into game-improvement irons…

Srixon ZXiR and ZXiR HL Irons: Everything You Need To Know!: The Technology

One of the most significant innovations from a technological standpoint is the introduction of of a brand-new material called i-ALLOY. It has been developed specifically for this iron range and is 10 per cent softer than the previously used 431 steel.

Srixon ZXiR and ZXiR HL Irons

These irons have been equipped with it to help improve the balance between feel and performance. Srixon believe it delivers enhanced feedback, quieter vibration, and a softer feel than anything else in the game improvement category. Promising stuff.

Additionally, the brand has also developed new MainFrame milling patterns. This new face technology is designed to maximise energy transfer by redistributing mass across the face.

Srixon ZXiR and ZXiR HL Irons

Srixon were able to determine that a lot of golfers who use game improvement irons have a tendency to strike the ball lower off the club face. So, to make these more useful to those golfers, they have repositioned the sweet spot lower on the club face. As a result, golfers should be able to unlock faster ball speeds, more efficient energy transfer and a tighter dispersion.

A few other features to point out include a Tour V.T Sole. This is to ensure smooth turf interactions and promote consistent ball strikes. Also on the face of the irons are progressive grooves. In the longer irons the grooves are wider for more for launch and speed, whilst in the higher lofted irons they are tighter.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
