We’re barely a week into 2023, and the hole-in-one heroics are already rolling in! That’s right, just when we thought we’d heard about every kind of insane ace imaginable in the wonderful world of club golf, a couple from New Zealand have defied the odds to pull off a pair of ‘miracle shots’ on New Year’s Day.
The scene of the epic feat took place at Rotorua Golf Club in Arikikapakapa, and features husband and wife duo, Steve and Keiko.
Invited for a swift nine holes with their friends to celebrate the start of 2023, the new year soon got off to an absolute bang when Steve tee’d up on the par-3 6th hole.
“He hit it and the ball went really well towards the flag,” Keiko told the New Zealand Herald. “We were watching, watching, and then, ‘Wow.’ That was a miracle!”
Bucket-list stuff. But this was only the beginning, as Keiko then took to the tee to take couple goals to a whole other level.
“Then it was my turn to hit,” she continued. “The ball went high, I didn’t actually know where it went. Normally it goes sideways but it happened to go straight toward the pin and landed on the side. Then it rolled toward the flag and went in.”
Simply ridiculous. A first ever hole-in-one for each player, on the same day, on the same course, and on the exact same hole. For those wondering, the odds of this happening stand at a near impossible 17-million to-one!
“Just to prove how competitive she is, I hit one, and then she goes and gets one straight after me!” Steve joked afterwards.
Certainly the greatest start to a new golfing year we’ve ever seen, and a feat which puts our New Year’s Resolutions at NCG HQ to shame. But as far as hole-in-one stories go, does it better these?
