Another week, another golfer taking legal action over a hole-in-one prize
Yes, that’s right. Just weeks after our unfortunate friend in Arkansas sued a golf club over a crazy marketing blip, we now have fresh legal drama after reading about another hole-in-one mix up.
The scene of this week’s crime took place at Virtues Golf Club in Ohio, and involves one furious golfer fighting for cash he was promised five-months ago.
After Virtues issued a hole-in-one challenge to all their players in May, Luke Sutton stepped up to the plate and aced the 14th hole, bagging himself a $10,000 cash prize in the process. Or so he thought.
According to a report in the Newark Advocate, despite being presented with a swanky big cheque after the round, Sutton never received the payment, and is now seeking legal action.
“Despite numerous promises, Defendant Virtues has failed to pay Luke Sutton the $10,000,” the lawsuit reads. “The said money was due and payable on May 14, 2022.”
And just when we though this couldn’t get any juicier, there is apparently a second Luke Sutton involved, whose status as a professional golfer is the cause of all the drama.
Per Virtue’s general manager, Hung Chow, the golf course assumed the payment had been sorted, but claims there’s been a mix up with the insurance company taking care of it.
“Last time I spoke to Ace Oasis, the promotional company, they said they had paid Mr Sutton $10,000,” Chow said. “[But] the insurance company has a policy against payouts to anybody with professional status. There happened to be another golf professional by the name of Luke Sutton. That is why the insurance company is balking.”
