The Open has always been more than just a championship. It is the most complete spectacle in golf. A tournament where history is made, and legends are born. In a fitting tribute to this spirit, The R&A has partnered with sustainable performance wear brand Reflo to launch a limited-edition capsule collection ahead of The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush. A certain England international is also involved…

Named The Giant’s Capsule, the collection is a nod to the iconic Giant’s Causeway and the legend of Finn McCool. As one of Ireland’s most mythical figures, McCool’s story is woven through the basalt stones of the Northern Irish coastline. The same land that will soon echo the cheers of golf fans from around the world as the next Champion Golfer of the Year is crowned.
Reflo’s new range celebrates the fusion of folklore and future-facing performance wear. Each piece, from polos and hoodies to midlayers and caps, has been designed to be equally useable on and off the course. They feature The Open’s iconic branding and are crafted using Reflo’s signature recycled performance fabrics.
This campaign is fronted by none other than England men’s football captain and Reflo investor, Harry Kane. Kane’s presence underscores Reflo’s crossover appeal and commitment to performance wear that champions both elite sport and effectiveness for environment.

The Open Himalayas Polo

Reflo aren’t a brand that I was familiar with or had even come across before I had the chance to test this polo. And I feel a bit sorry I hadn’t. As you may have noticed from the badging on this polo that this is a part of Reflo’s Open Championship capsule.

First of all, I am a fan of the cameo-like microprint. It brings a slightly new and fresh pattern than what I am accustomed to on a golf polo shirt, but it isn’t overly barring. The shirt also fit well, offering plenty of breathability for a comfortable and easy swing of the golf club.
As the price would suggest, the fabric also felt really premium and of great quality. Although, that is what you would expect considering it is also a limited edition piece.
This is a rare and limited-edition golf polo so be quick to grab one whilst you still can!
Pros:
- Quality material
- Pays homage to The Open and Royal Portrush quite brilliantly
- Extremely breathable and user friendly
Cons:
- Premium price point

The Open Dunluce Cap

I’m naturally cynical about products which feel like they might be cashing in on something – and merch around an event makes me particularly suspicious.
I’m going to have to make an exception for Reflo’s cap ahead of The Open at Royal Portrush, because this piece of headwear is no mere marketing opportunity.
Yes, there is only 500 of them – a little Giant’s Capsule head on the side reflecting you are one of the chosen few to own one.
But there is much more to this cap. It’s made from 100 per cent recycled polyester, so gets full marks on the sustainability front. It’s built in UV protection shields your head without having to worry about applying another dollop of sunscreen.
And, most importantly, it’s very comfortable. The brim feels pretty firm to the touch but flexes well when put on, and the mesh rear is breathable.
I’d prefer a clasp rather than a snap fastener for adjustability – it’s just more adaptable and there will be some who find their head is between studs.
That, though, is a very minor mark down on what is otherwise a very impressive cap.
Pros:
- Limited edition
- Sustainable
- UV protection
- Comfortable
Cons:
- Would prefer a clasp rather than a snap fastener

The Reflo collection for The Open is as much about story as it is about sustainability. Speaking about the launch, Reflo Co-Founder Rory MacFadyen said, “The Open isn’t just a golf tournament. It’s where legends are made. With The Giant’s Capsule, we wanted to honour the mythical spirit of Finn McCool and the raw beauty of the Portrush coastline, while celebrating the modern giants of the game preparing to battle it out on the links”.
To support the launch, Reflo will release original content filmed across the Portrush and Causeway coast. It aims to capture the drama of the landscape and the magic of its myths. With only 500 units of each item produced, the collection is very exclusive, so be quick if you want some. Its is designed to resonate with those who love the game and is made using recycled materials.
The Giant’s Capsule is available now and will be sold exclusively through The Open’s Official Merchandise Shop at Royal Portrush and on both The Open’s website and Reflo’s website.
Whether you’re teeing it up or tuning in, this is your chance to wear a piece of the legend of Portrush and The Open.
