Prostate Cancer UK’s Big Golf Race urges golfers to go the distance in 2025

Prostate Cancer UK have organised a a charity golf event, The Big Golf Race, to help raise funds and they are urging all golfers to get involved.

• Take on 36, 72 or 100 holes in a day and raise money to help save men’s lives
• Fundraising to support life-saving research, like TRANSFORM trial
• Top names from golf industry to help launch 2025 campaign at Pitch, Soho
• Leading menswear brand Charles Tyrwhitt sponsoring campaign launch event

Prostate Cancer UK is calling on golfers across the UK to go the distance this summer and
take on The Big Golf Race to help fund life-saving projects like TRANSFORM, the most
ambitious prostate cancer screening trial in over 20 years.

Since The Big Golf Race was launched in 2020, it has become the biggest golf fundraising
challenge in the UK, with more than 14,400 golfers raising over £4.5m to help fund life-
saving research to radically improve the way prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated.

This year, the leading men’s health charity is encouraging more golfers to go the distance to
help save dads, grandads, brothers, partners and golf mates from a disease that is now the
most diagnosed cancer in England, affecting 1 in 8 men.

Simon Grieveson, Assistant Director of Research at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “Over the
years, golfers have played a massive part in enabling us to launch research projects like
TRANSFORM, which aims to definitively show the best way to screen men for prostate
cancer, and in doing so providing earlier diagnoses, and saving thousands of lives a year.
“Every year we’re blown away by the response to The Big Golf Race, and we’re delighted
that it’s now the biggest fundraising challenge in golf. That’s in no small part down to our
inspirational army of golfing supporters, who turn out in their thousands every summer to
raise life-changing amounts of money for Prostate Cancer UK.”

Golfers willing to take on The Big Golf Race have three fundraising options: the Marathon
(playing 72 holes in a day); the Half Marathon (36 holes) or the formidable Ultra Marathon
(100 or more holes).

Go the distance and take on The Big Golf Race in 2025. Sign up now.

For the first time, golfers can sign up for The Big Golf Race via the challenge’s brand new
microsite, allowing them to join teams and raise money easily, as well as seeing who’s
topping the 2025 fundraising leaderboard. Those who register will receive a fundraising
pack, including golf balls, tees, pencils and a fundraising guide, plus there are opportunities to earn incentive gifts with every swing. Every golfer who raises £250 will be entered into a draw to win a once-in-a-life golfing holiday to the Aphrodite Hills Resort in Cyprus, while the overall top fundraiser will claim the ultimate golf package worth £3,000, courtesy of Titleist.

The Big Golf Race 2025 was officially launched this week in collaboration with launch partner Charles Tyrwhitt at an exclusive event at Pitch, Soho, attended by golfing media, content creators and industry stakeholders, joining Prostate Cancer UK supporters and celebrity ambassadors.

Scotland’s most decorated Olympian and keen golfer, Duncan Scott OBE joined former international rugby union star, Kenny Logan, who was successfully treated for prostate cancer in 2022, on a Q&A panel hosted by Sky Sports’ Johnny Phillips.

Commenting on his own prostate cancer journey, Logan said: “It’s inspiring to see how much the golf community has got behind The Big Golf Race, raising an incredible amount of money for Prostate Cancer UK.

“I knew about prostate cancer before my diagnosis, but as a young man, playing professional sport, you think you’re untouchable. As you get older, you realise these things can happen and knowing that 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer reflects how important it is for men to know their risk.

“The Big Golf Race is fantastic as it gives golfers the opportunity to get together on the course and open up about their health, as well as raising money for a brilliant cause. I’m delighted to be involved for 2025, and I hope to see as many golfers as possible out there this summer making a difference for men and their families.”

Eight-time Olympic medallist Scott will also be supporting fellow Olympian Sir Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 ride, raising money for Prostate Cancer UK, along with four other cancer charities this September.

He said: “Prostate Cancer UK’s Big Golf Race is an epic challenge that has made a real impact for men affected by prostate cancer, so I’m thrilled to be supporting it this year. It’s a brilliant way of combining a fun day out on the course with mates with raising money for vital prostate cancer research, so it’s a real win-win.

“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and it doesn’t discriminate – take my compatriot Sir Chris Hoy, for example. His experience has really shone a light on the disease and the need for a prostate cancer screening programme, so knowing that the money raised through The Big Golf Race could help to deliver that is really exciting.

“I’ve never played more than two rounds in a day, so I’ve got massive respect for everyone taking on 72 – or even 100 holes – this summer, raising money for a great charity.”

Leading menswear brand Charles Tyrwhitt is continuing its life-saving support of Prostate Cancer UK by sponsoring the Big Golf Race launch event. The brand aims to help reach more men with important prostate cancer risk messaging and encourage men to know their risk of the disease. Charles Tyrwhitt also showcased and gave away its exclusive range of high-quality golf clothing on the evening.

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
