2023 Porsche European Open betting tips

The Best Bet: Mike Lorenzo-Vera @ 60/1

Mike Lorenzo-Vera is finding some form at the right part of the season, and as he looks to climb the Race to Dubai rankings ahead of a busy summer, the Frenchman can certainly impress this week at Green Eagle.

This course demands strong play off the tee, and that is where Lorenzo-Vera is excelling, as he has ranked 5th and 10th in his past two starts in SG Off the Tee. He’s also ranked 11th and 16th in those last two starts in Tee to Green, and it is just his iron play that is slightly lagging behind. The opposite was true in Italy where he was on fire with his approaches and poor off the tee, so now he has found his game from the tee box, hopefully his irons will return as well.

The Frenchman is on a run of four straight made cuts, and in this time, he’s posted three top-12 finishes. When 7th in Korea he was 3rd at the halfway mark, he finished 4th in Soudal after going into the final round in 5th place, and last week at the KLM Open he finished 12th, after firing a final round 68 to climb closer to the top of the leaderboard.

Back Lorenzo-Vera whilst he’s on a hot run of form, as he returns to a course where he’s finished 19th, 29th, and 40th.

The Each-Way: Kiradech Aphibarnrat @ 66/1

Kiradech Aphibarnrat is a very talented golfer who should win more, but he travels between tours a lot, very rarely finding a place to settle, and if he can just string a set of starts together, he may just build some consistency, which signs suggest he is doing right now.

The man from Thailand has a very good record at home and in Asia in general, but he’s also got some great form in Germany. Aphibarnrat has T4 and T6 finishes at the BMW International Open in Munich, and in two starts here at Green Eagle he’s also shown some promise.

He finished 37th here on debut in 2017 but was actually 4th going into the weekend before a tough couple of days, and then he returned last year to finish T34.

He is a streaky player and with 15th and 5th place finishes in his past two starts, including last week where he was briefly in the mix on Sunday, it is now time for Aphibarnrat to contend again for another title.

The Long-Shot: Marcus Armitage @ 80/1

With Aphibarnrat we have talked about a player showing more form than his final results suggest, and that is the case for Englishman, Marcus Armitage. Now, as Armitage returns to the site of his first DP World Tour win, I believe he can post another strong finish.

Armitage came from the clouds to win the shortened 54-hole renewal in 2021 so there may be question marks as to just how good he is here, but there is confidence to take from his title defense in 2022. He opened with a round of 70 sit 11th after day one last year and a battling 73 actually saw him climb three more places into 8th by Friday’s end. It was clearly a tough couple of days for scoring, and whilst he couldn’t keep it up over the weekend, it was at least another couple of strong rounds for Armitage here.

He now comes into the week finishing 9th, 28th, and 29th in his past three starts, but the final results don’t tell the whole story. When Armitage finished 28th at the Soudal Open he was in 12th place going into the weekend and when he was 29th last week in Holland, he was 4th after Friday’s round.

Armitage’s irons are flashing right now, having ranked 3rd, 47th, 8th, and 3rd in his past four starts in SG Approach and if his driver cooperates this week, on a course where he has fond memories, then his time might come to challenge again.
