I’ve got to say, I was genuinely surprised by these Callaway Winter Thermal Trousers.
I’ve never really considered thermal golf trousers before, but I decided to give them a try, and I’m glad I did!
Worn on the course, they kept me warm without feeling bulky, even during those chilly mornings. The fabric is surprisingly comfortable and flexible thanks to the mechanical stretch—no restrictions during my swing.

These are like no golf trousers I have ever worn before. The best way I can describe them is as a hybrid of trousers and waterproof but that doesn’t really do them justice.
You know they’re different as soon as you pick them up. They’re heavyweight, they’re extremely robust – almost like a starchy quality – but the fabric is incredibly stretchy.
Pop them on and you initially wonder how you might move but as you take steps the material moves with you. That may be an alien feeling for those of you who enjoy a looser fit but if you consider the alternative of wearing waterproof trousers over your golf trousers, you are going to plump for this alternative.
And that’s where this product sits. You’re going to wear it in bad weather, in the cold, and when you think you’re going to get rained on.
They trap the heat as you would expect, repel water really well, and you will never ever get cold in them. They’re an innovative product that will be a fixture of my winter wardrobe.

For me these Under Armour Infrared tapered trousers are my ideal golf trouser. They have a neat fit, a modern but classy look, whilst still offering great performance benefits. These are a trouser that will get you through the cold months of winter, but I believe they can easily be worn in spring and summer as well.
Abacus is a Swedish brand that has a strong tradition of producing weatherproof gear: so much so that they have clothed the last six European Solheim Cup teams.
They offer a range of trousers to suit all weather conditions. The Druids windvent trouser is designed for cold, windy, dry weather and it works admirably in this regard. They are made from a stretchable softshell fabric with a brushed inside. The fabric is water repellent but not waterproof.
They are certainly comfortable, quiet and they are extremely toasty. They have four roomy pockets and a two-button closure at the front. The only design feature I’d have liked to see is a gripper waistband.
You certainly won’t feel the cold in these trousers, and, although the fabric is badged as breathable, it’s possible to get too hot in less than Arctic conditions. And they aren’t really suitable to layer over with a waterproof due to the thickness of the garment. However, should I ever go on a golfing holiday to Scandinavia, then I’d be sure to pack these!

I have never owned a pair of winter golf trousers before. I tend to wear my summer chinos with some thermal leggings under and suffer feeling a bit like the Michelin man climbing up and down the hills at my home club.
The Ping SenorWarm winter trousers are a revelation for me. They are thick, have brushed fabric insides that help keep you warm, they are water and wind-resistant, so they are brilliant in any conditions.
The pocket configuration is superb with a hidden button on one of the back pockets, and a gripper strip in the other to stop your scorecard holder slipping out as you walk around the course.
There’s also a zip pocket inside one of the front pockets, and combine that with a waistband gripper to stop your shirt from untucking. These really are the ultimate trousers.
These winter trousers from Glenmuir are designed to defy typical winter weather. They are constructed from 96% polyester, with the addition of 4% elastane, to allow freedom of movement. There’s a brushed inner fleece fabric which offers windproof, thermal and breathable properties. To cap it all, there’s a Teflon DWR finish, so the Ashurst offers protection against the wind, the cold and rain showers.
I’m typically a 32-inch waist and short inside leg. The 32/29 size fitted me quite closely, which worked ok for my slender shape, but more solid individuals might prefer to go up a size. That said, these trousers offer a tailored look which is not always the case in this category of apparel.
On the course, the Ashurst is certainly comfortable and snug. I have tested it in showery and blustery conditions, and it has kept me warm and dry. I appreciated the four large pockets with some added detail around the two rear pockets for added visual interest.

I’m sure you’ll never feel the cold in these impressive trousers, and they will also work well in showery conditions. They would not be my choice if persistent rain is forecast and you’re likely to require a waterproof layer. In this case a lighter trouser would be more appropriate.
These trousers come highly recommended, are sensibly priced and are easy to care for.
I wore the ProQuip WarmTec trousers during a chilly round of golf, and they were fantastic.
These trousers kept me warm without feeling bulky, thanks to their special thermal fabric. I was surprised at how breathable they were, so I didn’t feel sweaty or uncomfortable even as I moved around.
The four-way stretch gave me plenty of freedom to swing and walk comfortably. When a light shower started, I was glad they were water-repellent and kept me dry.
The silicone grip kept my shirt tucked in, which looked neat all round.
Overall, these pants made a big difference on a cold, damp day, helping me stay warm and comfortable.
The only downside for me was that they felt a bit too close to waterproof, so they were noisy when walking around indoors.
