We’ve worn them in the sun, in the rain, in the sleet, on our home courses, on away courses, in the fairway, in the sand, in the rough, and sadly even in the heather to be able to create honest reviews you the club golfer can actually trust.

We’ve scoured through all the press releases and know all the technology and left no stone unturned to be able to assemble our list of the best golf shoes 2024.

Unboxing them, I was initially put off by the blue and pink trim, but the more I looked at the FJ HyperFlex Carbon shoes, the more I loved them. They’re bright and colourful without being too in your face and give off a youthful player vibe that I like.

The big talking point on these shoes is the custom moulded carbon fibre plate that sits in the sole. As an avid runner, I’m aware shoe companies have been adding carbon sole plates to shoes for a few years now, and I’ve wondered why they haven’t appeared in golf shoes yet.

FootJoy reckons that the Hyperflex Carbon offers increased stability than any shoe on the market now due to the carbon power plate. With ortholite impression fitbed and optiflex zones, the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbon shoes should be stable and rigid in the golf swing but comfortable enough to wear all day.

I’ve worn these shoes now for a few weeks so I’m fairly comfortable commenting on how the FootJoy HyperFlex Carbons are pretty much faultless. I’ve worn them on dry links turf at Furness golf club in Cumbria, and on my home course of Sand Moor in West Yorkshire, and they have impressively managed to keep my feet dry.

I’ve been looking for a pair of golf shoes that a suitable for teaching in, playing in, practising in, walking the dog in, and going to the pub in, and I think I may have found them. The Puma Ignite Elevate shoes look and feel just like sports shoes, and straight away, I love the way they feel on my feet.

Unboxing them, these shoes straight away offer superior step-in comfort, eliminating the need to break shoes in, which feels so last decade now. The ignite foam offers a snug feel and cushion when walking and feels springy in the swing when pushing off your right side into the ball.

I’ve worn these shoes now for a few weeks, so I’m fairly comfortable commenting on how the Puma Ignite Elevate shoes have been pretty much faultless. I’ve worn them on dry heathland turf at The Alwoodley Golf Club, and on my home course of Sand Moor in West Yorkshire, and the performance has been excellent.

I cannot believe how strong and stable I feel in the swing wearing them. I’ve loved wearing spiked shoes this winter as it’s helped me feel really grounded, but these shoes offer me the same ‘connected to the floor’ feeling I have grown accustomed to, and I feel like I have a really strong base to rotate hard from.

These come in loads of different colourways, so don’t get hung up on the two-tone upper. They are also available in spiked, spikeless, classic saddle or shield tip, so the options are many and varied.

These are FootJoy golf shoes, and their natural habit is the golf course. They are so lightweight. They are effortless to wear and you feel like you could run in them, alright well maybe not run, but certainly walk a long way in comfort.

I keep coming back to the fit. I do not want daft amounts of padding under my foot, I want to be able to feel the ground, and not feel like I am wearing stilts. Again the modest depth sole and the high levels of stability speak of a brand-making footwear for proper golfers.

The grip provided is also faultless, I played my first round in these in a typically British ‘light drizzle’ and experienced no slippage from the spikeless sole.

Depends on the 19th hole. At my home club of Alwoodley these were meeting with nods of approval that the golfing trainer can only dream of. I am not going to slip them on with a pair of jeans though. So I guess that goes back to personal preference.

Out of the box, this shoe presented an absolutely classic look. The clean lines, the stitching, the lacing system – it all looks just right. I tested the black model with a contrasting grey sole. There is also a version in white.

I was pleased to see a robust heel piece. Turning over to look at the sole design, there are nine removable spikes per shoe as well as over fifty small moulded spikes. Breaks in the outsole offer flexion to the forefoot and also help to control weight. Talking of weight, each shoe came in at 425 grammes, which is lighter than the average proper leather spiked shoe.

I found the shoe to be extremely comfortable from the outset. The leather upper felt supportive and flexed nicely in play – I put this down to the outsole design. There was a springy, cushioned feeling walking between shots. Cuater talk about their Sweet Spot technology Cushioning throughout the molded insole and I have to say that the shoe felt much more comfortable than I expected from the classic design.

I have to say that I think Cuater have produced another winner with this shoe. No, it’s not for the golfer who wants their shoes to look like a Formula 1 racing car. But if you value comfort, understated style and thoughtful technology, then I recommend that you give serious consideration to this brand and this model.

This is a tremendous golf shoe. In every single way. I received the white model, with a hint of orange in the back lapel and a green and orange sole, and they look exceptional. You can also pick these up in black.

These are remarkably lightweight. They’re also pretty flexible but have a stability and structure which gives you confidence they won’t be bending all over the place as your feet are shifting during the motion of a shot.

The Lightstrike midsole and BOOST heel is doing most of the heavy lifting, and what you’ll immediately notice is how easily they slip onto your feet and how comfortable they are. A lot of modern shoes are like stepping into slippers now, but this is a next level experience.

The waterproof upper seems to not only keep any water out, but still allows your feet to breathe.

I was struck by the comfort of the insole, how they gently – but firmly – held my feet in position rather than allowing them to ricochet about like a bowling ball across lane guards, and I also appreciated the ability to tighten the BOA as appropriate.

They look sturdy and long lasting and, given you’re going to be wearing them for several hours at a time, the contentment you will feel on your feet makes them well worth the investment.

• You won’t find a more comfortable shoe straight out of the box.
• BOA is extremely effective.
• Great looks and easy to clean.

The first thing I noticed on opening the box was the leather upper which felt really soft and supple. The overall appearance was of an athletic-looking shoe with a quality feel. It also felt very light. Indeed, on getting out the kitchen scales, this size 7.5 shoe weighed in at a lean 360 grams which is very much at the lighter end of the spectrum.

I’ve already mentioned the leather upper which is constructed from Pittards leather and comes with a one year waterproof guarantee.

There is a decent amount of padding around the collar and tongue of the shoe, and a look at the sole revealed 180 (I counted) rubber lugs making up the soft spikes. This is apparently an increase of 30% from the last model so as to enhance traction.

Testing was carried out in dry conditions at Woburn and then at my home heathland course. After some initial concern regarding right foot support, everything settled down and the shoe felt comfortable and light. This latest model has Stratofoam midsole cushioning to enhance underfoot comfort and support. It also felt stable thanks to what FootJoy calls the Power Harness – essentially this is the medial and lateral support which combines with the heel piece.

If ever there was a shoe that could be worn away from the course then this is it. The unobtrusive branding means that I could easily pop into the supermarket on the way home without a second thought. And if I were to encounter a banana skin, I would probably remain upright thanks to that grippy sole.
