Stat-tastic! You can track your game on the MyEG app
You may use it to check out how your handicap is doing, but the MyEG app has been boosted with some brand new features
You can now use the England Golf MyEG app for much more than just tracking your World Handicap System index.
The governing body has introduced a ‘My Stats’ function – giving golfers a chance to add a new dimension to their game by tracking a series of metrics, including fairways hit, greens in regulation and putts per round.
Club members and iGolfers can use the new features, which will also allow them to input which club has been used for certain shots, select the direction the ball went, whether they hit it long or short on their approach to the green, as well as shots in greenside bunkers, and how many penalty shots were taken.
They will also be able to see stats from previous rounds recorded – helping them identify areas to work on.
MyEG app: ‘We want to make it a one-stop shop for golfers’
Richard Flint, England Golf’s chief operating officer, said: “We’ve had over 400,000 people downloading the MyEG app and 2023 saw a huge increase in its usage, with more than 21 per cent of scores being registered through the app, including a 20 per cent increase in usage by girls/women.
“We were also able to introduce interoperability which saw a staggering 82 per cent increase in scores submitted by England Golf members and iGolf subscribers at clubs in other GB&I nations.
“After conducting a survey and receiving over 12,000 responses from users of the MyEG app, we have listened to our members and therefore introduced ‘My Stats’ to help golfers enjoy and improve their experiences.
“The app has been very simple to use but we want to make it a fun one-stop shop for our golfers, and by adding options to measure statistics, it will directly benefit the golfer to help them understand their game.”
When creating a scorecard, the app will show tabs for golfers to enter ‘STATS’. Another tab, ‘LOCAL RULES’, will allow golf clubs to add details of their Local Rules so players can check any rules specific to the hole of the course they are playing.
Flint added: “While it will not be compulsory to fill in stats for handicapping purposes on the app, we actively encourage golfers to engage and record, so that they can track their progress and monitor their handicap all in one place.”
