What clubs does the American have in play for this season?

Sarah Schmelzel is into her sixth season on the LPGA Tour. Although she has yet to claim her first victory on Tour, she has had a stellar year which has seen her register seven top 10s.

The 30-year-old has been rewarded with a captain’s pick for the 2024 Solheim Cup, to the surprise of some. Schmelzel is set to make her debut in the competition and is one of only two rookies on the United States team, along with Lauren Coughlin.

So, let’s take a look at what clubs and balls the American has in play for 2024.

A look inside the American’s bag

Callaway dominates all aspects of Schemelzel’s bag, except the ball. She uses Callaway’s Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver, which has the lowest spinning head from the Paradym range. The driver is used with KBS’ first-ever driver shaft.

The American uses the older Paradym model for her fairway wood. It’s not clear what type or loft of fairway wood she uses, but we believe she only has one in the bag.

Like the majority of golfers on the LPGA Tour, Schmelzel uses a hybrid, a Callaway Apex UW to be precise.

For her irons, Schmelzel utilises what we believe is a full set of Callaway Apex TCBs. As is the case in the rest of her clubs the 30-year-old has a KBS shaft paired with them.

We’re not sure how many or what degree wedges she currently plays, but the American does use Callaway Jaws. She has chosen a chrome finish for her wedges.

Sticking with the Callaway choices Schmelzel has opted for an Odyssey Toulon Design Las Vegas putter.

Her first piece of equipment away from Callaway, and only, is her ball of choice, the widely popular Titleist Pro V1.

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
