Equipment editor Hannah Holden reviews the seven new putters available in the TaylorMade TP Patina collection

Go back to the future with TaylorMade's newest putters

TaylorMade have unveiled a new line of putters for 2019, so I took them down to Huddersfield Golf Club to see what all the fuss is about. You can watch my TaylorMade TP Patina putters review here…

If you’d prefer to read what I have to say about them and for all the details including pricing and release date, head to the next page…

TaylorMade TP Patina putters review: First impressions

The new Patina finish instantly gives this range a more premium look, it is a really eye-catching colour which instantly makes this range more appealing.

TaylorMade TP Patina collection

TaylorMade TP Patina putters review: The technology

The new TP Patina collection gets its name from the new putter finish which is an authentic patina colour which will naturally tarnish over time for that vintage look.

All putters across the range feature a new 5mm aluminium pureroll insert for better sound and improved feel and roll.

The new insert is securely fastened by two signature TP screws in the cavity. This method creates a tight bond that minimises voids or air pockets underneath the insert for a more solid feel at impact.

The range features seven putter models including four blades and three mallets. The Del Monte and Dupage are brand new head styles for 2019. The range features a mixture of face-balanced and putters with toe hang.

The range features custom swing weighting relative to the length of the club. So shorter putters have heavier weighting to keep the putter balance correct. The TP sole weights will also be available to buy separately so you can customise the weight of your putter.

TaylorMade TP Patina putters review: The results

Choosing a putter is a very personal thing in which the aesthetics and shape plays a big part. While some people won’t stray from a traditional blade, mallets are becoming more and more popular. This range includes four blades and three mallets so you can choose something that suits your game.

I found I was getting a true consistent roll across the range that was helping with the consistency of my pace putting. I also felt I was getting a soft feel off the club-face, but still has consistent ball speeds, so I could easily get the ball to the hole.

TaylorMade TP Patina putters review

Each style have drastically different shapes and alignment cues but I was very comfortable using all of them which especially showed with all the short putts I holed when testing this collection.

A big plus for me is the addition of custom swing weighting. I use a short putter and often have a longer putter cut down to the correct length which affects the overall weighting of the club, making it too light. With the new weight system it is easy to make sure you have the correct weights in your putter relative to the length of the club and your stroke.

TaylorMade TP Patina putters review: NCG verdict

Personally I love the new finish of these putters, the colour looks great and really suits my eye and I think it is a big improvement on the previous finish.

TaylorMade TP Patina putters review

This collection offers lots and shapes and sizes so there is an option for everyone. The different neck bends and option for a toe hang or face balanced putter is a great addition although it is a shame each head style doesn’t have the options of different neck bends.

I think the two new additions to this collection will make a big impact and are personally my two favourite styles in the TP Patina collection. I especially like the Dupage mallet as it gave me lots of confidence over the ball in terms of alignment and forgiveness.
