TaylorMade was founded in 1979 by Gary Adams in McHenry, Illinois. The company has built its reputation on technological innovation. Their very first product was a stainless-steel 12 degree metalwood (memorably nicknamed the “Pittsburgh Persimmon”). At that time, Adams had just 3 employees and the one product. TaylorMade has grown somewhat since then with headquarters in Carlsbad, California, and over 2,000 employees worldwide.
Their clubs are used by many of the top players in the world, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood. Incidentally, they all currently wield the TaylorMade Spider putter to devastating effect.
It should come as no surprise that TaylorMade offer a whole host of bags that come in all shapes and sizes. Now I’m a sucker for a waterproof carry bag and so was delighted to be asked to undertake the TaylorMade FlexTech Waterproof stand bag review….

- Good colour choices.
CONS
- Just a little bulky.
First Impressions
At first sight, the FlexTech Waterproof looked smart and stylish. It also looked quite big. As someone who is an inveterate carrier, I’m always looking for lightweight, compact and comfortable bags, but with enough storage space for all those essentials.

Now although this bag is quite large, it is also surprisingly lightweight. On the scales it came in at 2.1kg (not including the waterproof hood), which is not unreasonable. And for the large size, you get plenty of storage, and a five-way top with two full length dividers, which offers easy club access. The FlexTech offers 5 pockets of varying sizes, all including waterproof zips. Although the bag I reviewed is essentially navy, each waterproof pocket had a contrasting white zip, and the zip pulls (along with some neat logoing) were in a contrasting bright yellow/green colour. It all looked very classy.

TaylorMade does offer this bag in a range of colours including black and gunmetal, as well as navy. There was some hexagonal patterning over with sides of the bag which added some visual interest. The large apparel pocket on the right of the bag contained a substantial rain hood made from the same durable material as the rest of the bag. That is a good thing , although it does rather take up valuable storage space.

I found myself either attaching it to the top of the bag or leaving it in the car. I don’t know why bag manufacturers don’t follow the example of a competitor brand that has a separate rain hood pocket in the hip pad. Perhaps that’s one for 2026.
NCG Verdict
I’ve tested the FlexTech Waterproof on several occasions now, including in some heavy showers. The pocket configuration is pretty standard and I could load everything in the bag that I wanted to, with the proviso that I’d taken the rain hood out of the large apparel pocket. Access to waterproof bag pockets can sometimes feel a little stiff but I had no issues here. The zips all ran smoothly, and all relevant pockets were accessible whilst on the move. The carry straps are comfortable and adjustable so it was straightforward to achieve a secure and balanced carry, even with the bag fully loaded. The legs operated smoothly with no rattle when carrying.

The 8.5″ five-way top divider is roomy and there’s a useful padded handle on the front of the bag. A further strap at the bottom of the bag makes getting the bag in and out of the car a piece of cake.
And, yes, when it rained, the waterproof features of the bag ensured that everything stayed nice and dry, with no wet grips or soggy snacks!
Although I am very much a bag carrier, I did test this out on a trolley and it worked fine. There is a labelled strap pass tunnel which ensures stability, so it’s nice to have that element of flexibility.

To summarise, this is an excellent all-weather and all round bag. It’s well constructed and looks good. The pockets all do a decent job. As a carry bag it is slightly bulkier than I’d ideally like, but that size means it performs well on a trolley or indeed a cart.
So I think this flexibility of use and quality design means that this is just about all the bag you’ll ever need. And with an RRP of £229, I reckon that represents reasonable value for money – especially as you can currently get it for slightly cheaper. It comes highly recommended.
