Jonathan Taylor reviewed this shoe back in 2022 and loved it. Back then it was the Cuater shoe by TravisMathew. Fast forward to 2026 and the Cuater brand has been replaced by the TravisMathew The Ringer 2 – which Jonathan Taylor reviewed as well and concluded…

Although the Ringer 2 offers only minor updates on the original, I think it is very much a case of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – read full review here and below is the 2022 review as is but with the updated bargain price of £97.50 for the pair! Available in 2 colours, get in quick before your size and or preferred colour sells out!

Shoes from Cuater (pronounced ‘kwaiter’) are probably not familiar to the majority of golfers. But when Jon Rahm switched to Callaway equipment, he also moved to TravisMathew clothing and Cuater golf shoes. Let’s check out how these shoes perform in my full Cuater The Ringer golf shoes review

First Impressions

The Ringer is one of four golf shoes offered by Cuater and is badged as their premium performance Tour golf shoe.

They come nicely packaged in a sturdy box. I tested the model in black with a contrasting white sole. This is one of three colour options. The appearance was smart, athletic and yet relaxed. There is a pleasingly low-key contrasting logo on the lateral aspect of the heel panel. The upper is a waterproof PU/Nylon blend. There is a so-called Sweetspot Cushioning System which promises all day comfort with layers of cushioning and support. An air-mesh lining offers breathability and moisture management.

The sole features seven removable Softspike Pivix cleats which have Spring Flex legs for traction and stability.

The cleats were accompanied by an additional fifty or so nubbins in a honeycomb pattern which gives the shoe an appearance of being seriously grippy. The UK size 7.5 (Euro 41) fitted my wide foot very comfortably and snugly out of the box. Each shoe weighed a reasonably lightweight 380 grammes.

What I found

I tested these shoes over four rounds in dry conditions on my home heathland course. I could not have asked for more. The shoes remained extremely comfortable throughout with no hint of soreness or rubbing, so the Sweetspot Cushioning System lived upto it’s name. I would happily wear these shoes for 36 holes in a day. The sole delivered the strong traction and stability that the appearance promised , and there was no slipping or sliding even in challenging terrain. Because the condition were dry, it was not possible to assess the waterproof feature but there is nothing to suggest any issues there.

The 19th hole

The only aspect that I think could be enhanced is the breathability of the shoe. This did not detract from the impressive comfort that I experienced but my feet did feel pretty warm at the end of a round , although I suppose this may be welcome as the mercury on the thermometer starts to plummet as the dark nights draw in.

Although this is a spiked shoe, the low profile nature of the cleats allied to the clean design of the shoe , does make it versatile enough to wear in the clubhouse.

I could not find any specific care/cleaning details but I would expect a post-round simple wipe clean with a damp cloth to be all that is required to keep the shoes in tip-top condition.

At first glance, the RRP of £149 does seem slightly steep. However after wearing this shoes for several rounds and experiencing the combination of comfort and stability, I regard that as an entirely reasonable price – especially now that they are 35% off at £97.50!
