  • Callaway quantum max os hybrid review: the details

I’m a big believer that more club golfers should be using hybrids. With the way technology and golf clubs have advanced, I think they would be considerably more beneficially than longer irons.

I’m so big on them because they are designed to make golf easier. The Callaway Quantum Max OS Hybrid is unapologetically built to do just that.

It offers maximum forgiveness, a high-launching ball flight and a confidence-boosting shape which is all hard to ignore.

If you are a golfer that struggles with misses out to the right or struggle to get the ball airborne, then this could be one of the easiest hybrids to use. Find out just how good this is in our full Callaway Quantum Max OS hybrid review…

NCG Summary

The Callaway Quantum Max OS hybrid is designed to make your life easier and it sure does deliver on that. It allows golfers to launch the ball easier with a more consistent performance across the face.

Its oversized and draw-based head means this wayward slices will be a thing of the past.

PROS

  • Extremely forgiving across the face
  • Easy to launch it high off any lie
  • Draw bias works well

CONS

  • Less workable than other hybrids

First Impressions

It is pretty obvious that this is a hybrid built for a draw bias performance. The profile is big, confidence-inspiring and looks like it will offer plenty of forgiveness.

Callaway has equipped it with an oversized club head that sits noticeably larger behind the ball than the standard Quantum Max. It also has a more visible face area and a friendly, almost reassuring profile, on the whole.

On the range

Gather around high handicappers, I have the perfect hybrid for you.

The Max OS is designed to be the most forgiving hybrid in the Quantum family, thanks to its oversized head shape, draw-biased weighting and low centre of gravity.

This is the ideal combination to make it ideal for players who struggle with misses out to the right, slices, or low-launching, squirmy shots.

Compared to the standard Quantum Max, this OS version launches the ball significantly higher and with more spin. Additionally, it produces a noticeably steeper descent angle.

While overall distance numbers may appear similar on paper to the Max, the ball flight is very different.

Where some hybrids can feel hot and flat, the Quantum Max OS delivers quite the opposite with a higher, softer-landing flight. It is something that is especially useful for long approach shots into greens.

Interestingly, even golfers who wouldn’t traditionally fit into the Maximum forgiveness category may find themselves drawn to this club. The ability to hit a high shot that stops quickly is a huge advantage on longer par fours and par fives, in particular.

NCG Verdict

The Callaway Quantum Max OS Hybrid is without doubt one of the easiest-to-hit and highest-launching hybrids I have tested in a long time.

And this is before mentioning the amount of forgiveness, which it delivers in abundance. Additionally, it is a really friendly club at address, and produces a high-spinning ball flight that helps shots hold the green.

For golfers who need help getting the ball airborne, or who simply want a hybrid that feels easy and dependable, you should be giving this plenty of thought.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
