Best Golf Mid Layer Sale 2025

Lyle & Scott Golf Technical Quarter Zip – 40% off

5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layer sale

Reviewed by Victor Levison

A must-have piece of equipment for any golfer is a mid layer. It can be worn in the summer when you’re playing into the evening and it starts to get a bit chilly, especially here in the UK, or in the winter over a base layer.

Finding the right mid layer is crucial, and I don’t know about you, but I always search high and low for the perfect one.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Lyle & Scott Tech 1/4 Zip Midlayer, and let me tell you, it was a pleasure. Since I carry my own bag, I can’t have anything too bulky or heavy weighing me down. But when it comes to a mid layer, I want something as light as possible while still providing protection from the elements and warmth.

This mid layer was fantastic – light, with a cozy fleece lining that kept me warm and comfortable. I usually wear a medium, a slim medium at that, but I would recommend sizing up as the medium was quite tight on me.

It’s perfect with just a thin polo or t-shirt off the course but wouldn’t fit over anything else.

I’m not usually one to wear golf gear off the course, but this mid layer with its signature Lyle & Scott golden eagle and fleece lining looks and feels great both on and off the course.

I must admit, as I’m writing this review at home, I’m actually wearing it right now – and no, I’m not heading out to play golf today!

Callaway Aquapel Premium Golf Hoodie – 55% off

5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Gillon Fabbroni

Golf hoodie is a phrase that may have those of a certain generation gnashing and wailing but they are becoming more prevalent. The Callaway Aquapel Premium Golf Hoodie will help those that are hoodie-curious into trying this garment.

Made from a mix of fabrics it stretches to give a good range of motion. The fabric also has aquapel water-repellant technology.

I tried the peacoat-heather colour and it was a good-looking hoodie. It has a straight lower hem and 2 front pockets. It is very comfortable, albeit the material certainly has some heft to it.  The neck is a V with a drawstring.

On, it was very comfortable and it was easy to swing a club. If you fancy a golf top that is a little different, try this out.

PROS:

  • Aquapel technology
  • Something a bit different
  • Good looks and performance

CONS:

  • None

RRP: £89.99

FootJoy ThermoSeries Pullover Hoodie – 30% off

4.5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Matt Coles

With hoodies becoming more and more prominent on the golf course, the FootJoy ThermoSeries Pullover Hoodie might well become a part of my golfing wardrobe!

This piece is made with moisture-wicking technology to keep water off the body, while the ‘Raglan Sleeve Construction’ allows for greater freedom of movement. It is very comfortable and fits well, with no restrictions when it comes to the golf swing.

The only issue I would have with the ThermoSeries Pullover Hoodie is the lack of pockets to put your hands in on a cold day. There is one pocket, but it is at chest level on the right side of the design.

Despite that, and perhaps the slightly high price of just shy of £100, this offering from FootJoy is certainly something you should take a look at if you are in the market for a hoodie on the golf course.

PROS:

  • Comfortable
  • Lightweight but warm
  • Stylish design

CONS:

  • Just one pocket, on the chest instead of waist

Sizes: S-2XL

Colours: Navy-Slate / Charcoal-Black / Sky

Galvin Green Dawson Insulating Mid Layer – 40% off

5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Steve Carroll

I’ve always sworn by Galvin Green’s Insula products. I dare you to find me a garment that keeps you as warm on the course as they do without you having to layer up like the Michelin man.

The Dawson insulating mid-layer carries on this tradition in superb style. I really don’t enjoy loose fitting clothes – they just get in the way – so the slim-fit on the Dawson mid-layer is a massive plus. I accept it might not suit everyone but, for me, it’s close without being constricting.

The way it shifts as you swing does give you full freedom of movement in a way a big jacket just cannot.

It really is warm too, to the extent that you may not even have to complement it with a bigger jacket depending on your constitution.  I’m a big fan of the full zip, as a half-zip can sometimes be a hassle to remove when you’re out on the course.

You’re not going to get caught out in the cold weather with the Dawson, and the bright styling and contrast hem looks pretty attractive out on the course too. Well played Galvin Green.

PROS:

  • Exceptional fit for me
  • Very warm
  • Full-zip a big plus

CONS:

  • Slim fit style may not suit everyone

RRP: £149 / $199

Sizes: S-3XL

J.Lindeberg Luke Deboss Midlayer – 50% off

5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Jonathan Taylor

The Luke Deboss midlayer is a lightweight, quarter-zip layering option. The fabric is constructed from 85% polyester and 15% spandex which makes it very stretchy.  Mesh side panels offer breathability. I tested the version in medium. A quick look at the sizing guide suggests that my non-Scandinavian and certainly non-athletic 173cm and 74kg frame might be better suited to a large size. However, although the medium is certainly close-fitting, it is also particularly comfortable, with a brushed inner and the aforementioned stretchiness.

The Luke Deboss is very much just a second layer, and it offers a cosy fit allied to unrestricted movement when swinging. It is also very straightforward to layer over with a gilet and/or waterproof.

It comes in three colour options. I tested the fabric in pink, so you certainly won’t miss me. The more conservative types can opt for navy or black. All three shades offer what JL call a tonal deboss print for a touch of interest.

It is on the pricy side, but if you like to stand out from the crowd, then this is just the job.

PROS:

  • Stylish design
  • Lightweight, soft and stretchy
  • Close fitting and comfortable

CONS:

  • Expensive

Colours: Navy / Black / Pink

Lyle & Scott Merino ¼ Zip – 50% off

4.5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Jack Backhouse

This is a wonderful piece of golf clothing. Not only does it look extremely smart whilst worn on the golf course, but also is suitable for dressier social occasions.

It is quite a small size medium but fits my slender frame nicely but you might want to size up if you are a mid to large medium. A perfect autumn winter garment, I love that it is light enough to fit in my golf bag on those awkward hot/cold days, and thin enough to work in a great layering system on a cooler frosty morning.

The merino wool does a great job of keeping the wind from blowing through to your skin and the ribbed collar and sleeve cuffs hug you nicely. It’s available in 5 different colours so you can have one to fit any of your stylish winter outfits. This is a must have in your winter wardrobe.

PROS:

  • Light
  • Versatile
  • Great layering

  • On the smaller side of medium

ProQuip Levante Technical Midlayer – 40% off

4.5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Jonathan Taylor

ProQuip is a Scottish golf clothing company founded in 1981.  Their golf weather wear is so trusted at the highest level that no less than 20 Ryder Cup Captains, on both sides of the Atlantic, have sent their teams into battle with ProQuip waterproofs in the bag. And in fact, the company offers a whole range of golfing wear including the Levante midlayer which is new for 2024.

The Levante, constructed from 94% polyester and 6% spandex, in a brushed back stretch fabric with a DWR finish offers comfort, warmth & protection against light showers. It comes in a choice of three colours, each offering a contrasting two tone dark and light styling which adds visual interest.

I tested the version in maritime blue in a large size (your model is 173cm & 74kg). This meant that I could wear it comfortably as a second or third layer, with no restriction to my swing. I regard it as a midweight midlayer, providing medium warmth in a relaxed fit. The quarter-zip & collar aspect worked well in all zip positions and the two tone styling is a novel touch.

So, with the choice of colours, flexible performance and reasonable price, I envisage the Levante being a popular choice this Winter.

PROS:

  • Comfortable and flexible use
  • Novel colour pattern
  • Very good value

CONS:

  • Lacks the tailored fit of more expensive competitors

Callaway Long Sleeve Trademark Chev Block Pullover In Peacoat – 45% off

5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Gillon Fabbroni

The, not exactly concisely-titled, Long Sleeve Trademark Chev Block Pullover in Peacoat is a golf top that fills the gap between wearing a golf shirt and and having a full-blown insulating top.

It is made from 60% polyester, 30% recycled polyester, and 10% elastane. It incorporates the Swing Tech TM technology band, and I found there to be no restriction when swinging.

The material is very soft and extremely comfortable. It has a quarter zip and a pattern of Callaway logos on the front, which adds a bit of interest. The material also has Aquapel technology, which repels liquids.

In most brands, I take XXL, and this XXL was spot on fit-wise for me. This top is light and while it is not something that I would wear if it was very cold, it is perfect for cooler days. In the summer this is ideal for early or later in the day when it is a little cool.

It could also be worn when cold as an additional layer and that makes it a very versatile piece of kit. I absolutely loved this top and it will be a staple of my golf kit from now on.

PROS

  • Light and extremly comfortable
  • No restriction when swinging
  • Versatile
  • Machine Washable

CONS

  • Only available in one style/colour

RRP – £70

Puma Pure Colourblock Quarter Zip – 65% off

5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Matt Chivers

Much like the Cloudspun Camo Hoodie, I liked the lightweight nature of this Puma Pure Colourblock Quarter Zip.

When I slipped this on, it did not burden my swing or my freedom of movement. To me, it is important for long layers to be breathable and free when you play golf, and this is why I was so pleased with this item.

The colour is great too. The Black-Aqua Blue design is very appealing to me, and I imagine it will also appeal to many other golfers. This colour design will definitely catch the eye of golfers who want to inject some variety into their wardrobe as they up the ante on the golf course in the Spring and the Summer.

It might be a minor characteristic of the item, but the zip that goes up to the bottom of the neck is not too suffocating either, adding to its comfort.

This is a piece of clothing people will look forward to wearing as the evenings become brighter and it is honestly difficult to pick out a negative with it.

Perhaps some golfers will choose a different colourway, but I was very pleased with the comfort, design and lightweight feel of this Quarter Zip.

PROS

  • Colour and design are attractive
  • Light and breathable
  • Reasonably priced

CONS

  • Might not like this particular colour

Puma Cloudspun Camo Hoodie – 30% off

5 star review
Best Golf Mid Layers

Reviewed by Matt Chivers

The Puma Cloudspun Camo Hoodie was very impressive.

As soon as I slipped it on, I knew it was a good fit and it didn’t even feel like I had another layer on because it was so light.

Golf hoodies have grown on me from the moment they broke through in the professional game and this Puma hoodie makes you feel at home. It is comfortable and light, and the black design makes it suitable for both on the course and off the course settings.

With a golf club in your hands, you have freedom of movement in this hoodie. The fabric is breathable and although it is not a baggy fit, I felt a lot of space around my chest which is what you need when swinging a golf club with a top player.

The hood is not heavy down your back and in terms of the design, the pattern going across the front at the top of the chest is simplistic and stylish. Puma has not tried to do too much with the design which I think a lot of golfers will appreciate.

As well as being a top-quality hoodie, I don’t think Puma is asking too much with the price tag of £60 either.

PROS

  • Breathable and light
  • Simple design
  • Reasonably priced

CONS

  • Might be too informal for some golfers

FootJoy Inset Stripe Chill-Out Sweater – 50% off

Best Golf Mid Layers

Being someone who is familiar with FootJoy clothing, I was looking forward to seeing if the 2024 spring range was at the usual high FootJoy standard.

It’s fair to say this jumper definitely was! I found it very comfortable, light, and breathable, yet not too loose or baggy to get in the way of my swing.

Furthermore, it is a warm jumper which could easily be layered in winter, making a great option for an all year round jumper.

The charcoal colour scheme goes well with a variety of different coloured trousers and shirts making it a very versatile addition to my golfing wardrobe.

I am a medium, and this jumper is also a medium, which fits well, so there is no need to size up or down.

Overall, this sweater gets 5 out of 5 due to its comfort and versatility. I would have no qualms wearing it off the course, but more importantly, it is a 12-month-of-the-year sweater that is going to get a lot of use during 2024 and beyond! I wholeheartedly recommend it!
