Duff House Royal

The Royal course with its own set of instructions from the great doctor

A MacKenzie masterpiece boasting a Royal approval with a difference

“I have rarely come across a piece of golfing ground which lends itself so well to the construction of an attractive course,” said none other than Dr Alister MacKenzie when describing the land at Duff House Royal.

The architect of Augusta National was so pleased with his creation in northern Aberdeenshire that he left a set of instructions for future generations on how to treat the course.

The club has remained loyal to the Dr’s vision and visitors to Duff House Royal can experience a course that has remained largely untouched.

History

There are said to be 66 clubs that have had a title conferred by the British Royal family. But there is one Royal course that’s set apart from all the others. Duff House Royal is the only one where the royal title is used as a suffix and not a prefix.

Duff House Royal

Why it’s special

The course is a flat, beautifully manicured parkland with little rough. The large two-tiered greens are classic MacKenzie work, while blind shots are kept to a minimum, as per the Dr’s instructions.

Where is it?

Duff House Royal can be found in the town of Banff in Aberdeenshire.
