NCG Top 100s Tour Visits…. Fraserburgh Golf Club

The first stop of a five-day week in Aberdeenshire came at the picturesque Fraserburgh…

NCG Top 100s Visits Fraserburgh Golf Club

It might well be the oldest golf club that we visit on the NCG Top 100s Tour, and our players enjoyed a great day out at Fraserburgh Golf Club.

Originally founded in 1777, Fraserburgh plays host to two courses – the 18-hole Corbie Hill and the 9-hole Rosehill. Our competitors took to the Corbie Hill for their first round on our 2024 Aberdeenshire Swing.

There are just three sets of tees on the Corbie Hill Course at Fraserburgh, but they do all provide different challenges. For the men, the course plays as a Par 70, with the Yellows measuring just over 5,830 yards. The Whites – which is what our players had to deal with, take the course past 6,300 yards. The Whites have a Course Rating of 71.2, while the Yellows play relatively easy, at a full shot under par (69.0).

The Reds, from which the Ladies played from, measure 5,320 yards. However, the course plays as a Par 74, with the 1st, 2nd, 9th and 18th all playing as extra par 5s.

What is the course like and what are the best holes?

6,300 yards is obviously not the longest course in the world, but if there are strong winds coming in off the North Sea coastline, then getting round the Corbie Hill in one piece is no mean feat!

It is also not a course that lack variety, and that is shown through the middle part of your round. The 5th and 7th are both par 3s, but are two very different holes. The former is a downhill short hole from 185 yards out, while the 7th is shorter, but is played to a green that looks minute from the tee.

In between those sits the longest hole on the Corbie Hill. The 6th is a 530-yard par 5, which plays up and over the crest of a hill, and making it into a proper three-shotter for most. It is one of just two par 5s on the course, with the other coming at the 15th. That provides more of a birdie opportunity than the 6th does, and it kicks off the closing stretch.

Once you find yourself at the top of the hill, and you can see everything that lies in front of you on the final couple of holes, you know you are almost at the end of your round. If you have a score in hand, then the road on the left of 18 really comes into play. The safe play is way out to the right and the 1st fairway and that might just give you one final shot at birdie.

You can check out more about the course on Fraserburgh’s website here.

What did our competitors think of Fraserburgh?

Looking for other opinions on Fraserburgh? Check out what some of our players had to say about this championship venue here:

“Every time I have been to Fraserburgh before it has beaten me up in the wind and rain. Today, though, with the sun out and a calm day, it was a glorious.” – Michael Headen

“It was a great start to the week and I am glad that I booked on at such late notice!” – Sarah Tryon

“What a day, what a course!” – Derek Lowe

What about the off-course facilities?

Fraserburgh Golf Club is also home to some decent practice facilities, and of course the 9-hole Rosehill which is the perfect compliment to the 18-hole Corbie Hill Course. There is also a practice area just after the 1st hole of the Rosehill, while a putting green next to the clubhouse is also available for golfers to use.

Although not attached to the golf club, the Dunes Golf Centre, which has a full-length, sheltered driving range, is a short walk down the main road from the golf club.

Inside, there is a welcoming atmosphere, and on a perfect day like we had, the upper floor lounge and balcony offers golfers and their guests some incredible views of the golf course. The building also has changing rooms and lockers downstairs.

How can you play at Fraserburgh?

Tee times are available every day of the week for visitors at Fraserburgh, and readily available on their website.

You can check out the green fees for a game at Fraserburgh here, and it is simple to book yourself in for a game on either the Corbiehill or Rosehill Courses. You can do so on their website here.

Fraserburgh is one of the northernmost venues that we visit on the NCG Top 100s Tour, and is situated on the northeastern coastline of Scotland. Peterhead is just a few miles south, while the course overlooks Fraserburgh Beach and the North Sea.
