Lancaster Country Club hosted the US Women’s Open for the first time in 2015, and now it has reclaimed these duties for the second major of 2024.
Pennsylvania will welcome the best female golfers on the planet to the bent grass fairways designed by William Flynn and first opened in 1900. The complex has 27 holes and its sole major was played on the Meadowcreek and Dogwood nines.
In Gee Chun won the first of her three major titles at Lancaster nine years ago finishing one shot ahead of her fellow South Korean Amy Yang.
Chun will be back for more, as will Allisen Corpuz – the defending champion. Corpuz still only has one professional win to her name, and she chose to claim it at one of golf’s most storied major venues in 2023. The Hawaii-born star stormed to victory at Pebble Beach with her closest pursuer Charley Hull three shots behind.
With just one top 10 so far this season, she showed form not too dissimilar in the run-up to her crowning moment last season. Corpuz had only two top 10s on her record when heading to the Monterey Peninsula 12 months ago.
No one has successfully defended their US Open title in the women’s sphere since 2001 when Karrie Webb went back to back at Pine Needles, and Annika Sorenstam before that in 1996 at the same venue. An exclusive club awaits Corpuz, but Nelly Korda will have a say about that.

Korda, along with Scottie Scheffler on the PGA Tour, has shown dominance that has been both staggering and thoroughly enjoyable to watch. The 25-year-old has won six times in her last seven events, becoming the first player since Inbee Park in 2013 to win six times in one season.
She is steamrolling her colleagues with ease and needless to say, she is the World No.1 and a clear one at that. What we would like to see is more majors added to her CV, which she did do at this year’s Chevron Championship. But a US Women’s Open title would take her into an even larger stratosphere, walking alone as the standout player of the modern era.

One player Korda won’t have to worry about is Lilia Vu. Back issues have plagued Vu this year, so much so that she couldn’t defend her Chevron title at Carlton Woods. What Korda has done this season is take a leaf out of Vu’s book from 2023, a year where she won two major titles and four LPGA Tour titles in total.
She also made her Solheim Cup debut, but Vu hasn’t played since March and it is a big miss for the circuit. Having mentioned Hull earlier, it was she who pushed Vu the closest at the AIG Women’s Open last August as well as challenging Corpuz at Pebble.

The World No.8 has played solidly. She has two top 10s this term and she represents England’s best chance of major glory. Hull and Boutier also carry strong hopes for Europe with Boutier reaching the lofty heights of three in the Rolex Rankings.
Boutier rattled off the Evian Championship and the Women’s Scottish Open in consecutive weeks last summer. The 30-year-old almost won the HSBC Women’s World Championship in February and recently played well at the Mizuho Americas Open, which was won by you-know-who.
And what of the in-form Hannah Green? The Australian star has wins in Singapore and LA to her name in 2024. She is up to fifth in the world and will be keen to double her major tally, having won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship five years ago now.

At 27 years old, Green has almost earned veteran status. Even she admits her surprise at her stellar work with two titles this season already. She is just another star who will align at the 2024 US Women’s Open, contributing to an exhilarating championship as the schedule begins to dig into its major run.
