Finland finally has a PGA Tour winner after Sami Valimaki held on to win The RSM Classic. Valimaki took claimed his first win in the United States via a one stroke victory and perhaps more importantly secured his PGA Tour card with a two-year exemption.

Valimaki also became the first Finnish player to be named the European Tour’s Rookie of the Year. It followed an impressive 2020 season including winning the Oman Open after he defeated Brandon Stone in a playoff.

In 2023 he claimed is second victory at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

He has now qualified to play on the PGA Tour and 2025 has started promisingly – with a best finish of tied 4th at the Texas Children’s Houston Open – finishing with a tied course record score of 62.

He could very well be someone to look out for as he looks to add to his victory haul and could be a good dark horse for the majors in 2025.

He has a very much changed bag that what he was gaming earlier in the year…

What is in Sami Valimaki’s bag?

Sami was previously a Callaway staffer, but now games a variety of different brands. He has swapped out his Elyte Diamond driver for a Titleist GT3 and pairs with it a TaylorMade R7 Quad mini driver. The Fin follows a growing list of pros adopting the mini driver into the set-ups.

The top of his bag is rounded up with another TaylorMade club, this time it’s the new TaylorMade Qi35 fairway wood. He uses the 7-wood version and is his only fairway wood in the bag currently.

His iron set-up is made up of a full set of Ping Blueprint S irons, from a four iron to a nine iron. He neglects to put in a traditional pitching wedge and instead games four Vokey SM10 wedges.

Valimaki’s putter of choice remains his trusted Odyssey White Hot OG 2-Ball Putter but has switch to the Titleist Pro V1x after previously using the TaylorMade TP5x.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
