What’s in Paul Waring’s bag?

Paul Waring secured the biggest victory of his career at the 2024 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, so let’s dive into his bag

Paul Waring ended the six-year wait for a victory on the DP World Tour at the 2024 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

He opened his account on the formerly-named European Tour at the 2018 Nordea Masters and since then, he’d had numerous second-place finishes and close calls.

His first DP World Tour win came on his 200th start having competed on the tour since 2008 after qualifying from Q School in 2007. Before that, Waring had a great amateur career, winning the English Amateur Championship in 2005 and captaining his country in the Home Internationals.

Waring shot a course-record 61 in the second round at Yas Links during what became the best week of his career. He shot a final-round score of six-under to keep Tyrrell Hatton at arm’s length, as well as Rory McIlroy, Matt Wallace and Tommy Fleetwood not too far behind.

Not only did this victory propel Waring up the Race to Dubai rankings, but it also put him in line for a PGA Tour card. The top 10 players in the rankings who don’t already have US playing rights receive a PGA Tour card, which was a big step for the 39-year-old.

“It just means so much to so many other things that come with that win,” Waring said. “That said, early in the week, to actually keep control of myself in the way that I did today I’m really proud of myself, and (caddie) Alex (Evans) was absolutely amazing.

“I’m not that emotional on golf courses. I tend not to fist-pump and I tend not to get up and down, and I tend to stay quite steady. It was actually the putt on 15, the par save. It was only five feet but it was such a solid putt. It just gave me so much confidence coming in that if I just keep hitting putts like that I’ll be fine.”

The man from Birkenhead has a mixed bag and it begins with a Ping G430 LST driver and a Ping G430 Max 3-wood. This is followed by a Titleist TSi2 5-wood and a Wilson Staff Model Utility iron, from a brand that dominates the core of his bag.

Waring uses Wilson Staff CB irons and two Wilson Staff Model 24 ZM wedges, alongside two other Vokey wedges. At the bottom of his bag, he uses an Odyssey 2-Ball Tour Lined Eleven putter and the Titleist Pro V1 Left Dash golf ball.
