Jon Rahm has had the same caddie since 2016, but who is he and how has such a successful partnership come about?

What Jon Rahm has achieved in the last seven years in professional golf has been superb.

He is a two-time major winner and a winner of 11 PGA Tour titles. His platform and superstardom have grown so much that he was worthy of a nine-figure fee in the eyes of LIV Golf.

The Spaniard made the controversial switch to the Saudi-funded league in December 2023 where he will now look to forge a new path of success.

As well as individual accolades, Rahm has also played for Europe at three Ryder Cups and become one of the continent’s best players.

But as much as all of this is a product of his own brilliance, it has also come about by forming a fantastic partnership with his caddie Adam Hayes.

So who is Adam Hayes and how long have Rahm and his work partner been walking the fairways together?

Jon Rahm caddie: Meet Adam Hayes

Rahm and Hayes joined forces in 2016 at a point where Rahm had only played 12 times on the PGA Tour. He was ranked 126th in the world and their first tournament together was the Safeway Open (what is now called the Fortinet Championship).

They won for the first time at the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open and this proved to be the start of a massively successful partnership.

Hayes attended the University of Central Florida and he became a caddie through the LPGA Tour. As well as Rahm, Hayes has also carried for Webb Simpson, Russell Henley, Jason Dufner, Vaughn Taylor and Ben Crane.

“The best caddies, in my opinion, are guys that just are almost like chameleons. They can read people’s personalities and learn their tendencies, and they don’t try and change people, and I’ve never tried changing Jon or anybody that I’ve ever worked for,” Hayes once told the Caddie Network in 2020.

“Jon is who Jon is. He’s a very competitive guy on the golf course and a lot of people take that the wrong way when he gets mad, but that’s just something that he’s had to figure out on his own, and I’ve never judged him for it and I never will.

“So I think that I’ve never tried to coddle or pamper the guys I’ve worked for but you hold guys accountable.”

Rahm has always been known as a fierce and passionate competitor and it is the reason for his success and his many weeks spent as World No.1.

But as he has previously revealed, it is Hayes’ determination to win that has also boosted the strength of their partnership.

“I think the most important thing to understand with (Adam) is he wants to win as much as I want to win, and that’s the beauty of it.” Rahm once said.

“Adam is amazing. I think what’s made it work so well is that early on the best way I can say it is we’re both no-BS guys. If you have something to tell me, tell me to my face, and it’s reciprocal.

“So he will tell me if he has something to tell me, and I will tell him if I have something to tell him. That’s the way things work. We’re not going to shy out when something comes up. I think that’s really important in our case because we know we both have each other’s best interest at heart.”
